Hello everyone,

I am currently furnishing my living room with Ikea Platsa furniture and have a specific question: Are there any cushions or upholstery that work well with Ikea PLATSA?

I am referring both to cushions that match the size, color, and style, as well as those that are good quality and compatible in terms of attachment with the modular PLATSA units.

I’m mainly looking for cushions for the benches and possibly also for the backrests that can be integrated easily without much DIY effort or slipping. Maybe there are manufacturers that specialize in Ikea-compatible products or generally offer suitable solutions.

I would appreciate any experiences, product recommendations, or tips on attaching and caring for the cushions.

Thanks in advance!

Hello jaanel,

That’s a very good question because the PLATSA series is quite versatile but not always compatible with every standard cushion.

There are a few options: Ikea does not sell custom cushions specifically for PLATSA, but some people use cushions from the TROFAST series, which often fit well dimension-wise.

It’s also worth checking out suppliers that offer made-to-measure cushions with online configurators. These cushions can usually be tailored precisely to your seating dimensions and attached with non-slip backing or Velcro strips.

It’s important that the cushions not only look good but also have the right fabric and thickness for their intended use. Otherwise, they can become uncomfortable or the attachment might not be secure enough.

If you’d like, I can recommend some manufacturers who offer these custom cushions.

Best regards, Ramon

Here is a structured summary:

- Ikea does not offer official cushions for PLATSA.
- Cushions from other Ikea series, such as TROFAST or SÄVERN, can be used with some limitations, but usually with less precise fit.
- Custom-made cushions are generally the best option if you want exact dimensions and secure attachments.
- Attachment methods: Velcro straps or non-slip pads usually work well and are reversible.
- Fabric choice: For seat cushions, I recommend durable, removable covers, ideally with washable outer cases.

When it comes to aesthetics, it’s important to consider the PLATSA color scheme—the furniture typically has a minimalist, modern design. Therefore, solid, subtle colors or fabrics with discreet textures work well.

Conclusion: I am not aware of any specific cushions for PLATSA, but with some adjustments and attachment solutions, it is definitely possible to use well-fitting cushions.

That’s correct, TROFAST cushions often work because the dimensions are similar.

Definitely, without proper attachment cushions tend to slip easily on PLATSA. Velcro is one of the best solutions.

A few months ago, I was looking for cushions for my PLATSA bench and ultimately decided on custom-made cushions. They came with attached Velcro strips, which made installation much easier. Nothing slips, and overall it looks very neat.

If standard cushions feel too imprecise, in my opinion, a custom solution is the best option. Some local upholsterers offer this, as do several online stores. You can also choose the fabric that best matches the PLATSA design.

It was also important to me that the cushions be easy to remove for cleaning when needed. This works perfectly with the Velcro-based solutions.

If you want more details on the practical implementation, I’d be happy to share my experience in more depth.
