Hello everyone, I am currently planning a new Pax combination with multiple drawers and want to make sure I choose particularly durable drawers. I am especially interested in which Ikea Pax drawers are the most robust in terms of weight capacity, material strength, and smooth operation. Are there models or versions that prove to be more reliable in everyday use, for example with frequent opening under heavy load or repeated use? I would also like to know how the load capacity differs between the various drawer types (such as full-extension, metal drawers versus wood-look). Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!

Marlenepa12 Dec 2021 09:12Hello Bayram44, this is a very precise and important question that is relevant for many Pax users. Basically, Ikea offers different series of Pax drawers that have varying load capacities. The metal or steel bottom drawers, often used as complementary parts to wooden drawer boxes, are generally more durable and can bear more weight than purely wooden versions. It is also important to pay attention to the drawer slides, which are often more robust in full-extension drawers. Additionally, if the drawers will carry heavy loads, you should ensure that the slides have soft-close and full-extension features, as these are usually of higher quality and distribute the weight better. I also recommend checking the internal dimensions and drawer profiles, as the width and depth significantly affect the load capacity.
The topic of load capacity for Ikea Pax drawers can also be clearly explained by looking at the maximum weight each drawer can hold. Metal base drawers, often made of steel, can carry up to 25 kg (55 lbs), sometimes even a bit more, according to Ikea. Wooden drawers, which focus more on design and appearance, are usually rated for up to 15 kg (33 lbs). The drawer slide system is also crucial: full-extension metal slides offer better load capacities than simple plastic rollers or partial extensions. If you frequently store heavy clothing, books, or other heavy items, metal base drawers with full-extension slides are indeed the best choice.

The topic of load capacity for the Ikea Pax drawers can also be well explained by the maximum load rating of each drawer.Thank you for providing the load rating; that is very helpful. I am still interested in whether the load capacity varies depending on the width or depth of the drawer, or if Ikea specifies a uniform load limit. Are there any practical experiences regarding how the load capacity changes when, for example, using a drawer that is twice as wide? Additionally, a note on the maximum depth of the drawers would be useful, as I often use wider, deeper drawers in my Pax configurations.
