Good morning everyone, I am about to assemble an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe set and wonder if it is really advisable to have a second person help during the assembly. My specific question is: Is it beneficial to assemble the IKEA Brimnes with a second person, assuming you have some basic DIY understanding, to save time and effort, or is it also manageable alone without compromising the quality or safety of the construction? I would appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially regarding the more difficult steps and handling the larger parts.

The Brimnes assembly kit consists of relatively large, flat parts that can be handled alone if you have experience with furniture assembly. However, I generally recommend having a second person for the following reasons: - Safety when lifting and positioning the side panels and back panels, as these are bulky - Easier alignment control, especially when screwing parts together and standing the unit upright - Time savings, since work can be done simultaneously Especially in tight living spaces or when a workshop-like area is not available, having a second person can make handling significantly easier. Technically, the quality of the assembly does not suffer when working alone, but comfort and time requirements increase noticeably.

I can only agree with KARJU. From my experience, the Brimnes wardrobe is not a complex construction, but handling the large panels and the sturdy back panels is definitely easier with two people. It is important to align the boards really parallel when connecting them, which is often difficult to do precisely alone. It is also practical if one person holds the parts while the other screws them together. Personally, I’ve always had someone with me for my recent IKEA projects, which reduced assembly times by at least 30%.

I think it’s really great to assemble the Brimnes with a second person! :-) I once tried it alone and found it quite difficult. But with help, it’s not only more fun, it also goes much faster. Especially when putting up the cabinet parts that are otherwise a bit unstable, working together makes it perfect – no damage, no unwanted surprises! My tip: play some music together and off you go 🙂

For additional technical clarification: The Brimnes series is modular and often uses screws combined with dowels. Especially when precisely aligning the connection points, having a second person to hold and position the individual components is helpful. Without a second person, more adjustments are usually needed, which can extend the assembly time and potentially affect stability if the parts are not perfectly aligned. Personally, I also consider a second person important for safety reasons, to prevent large parts from accidentally tipping over during lifting.

Thank you for the tip! My living space is indeed quite small, which might limit the freedom of movement during assembly. Are there specific steps in the assembly of the Brimnes series that are particularly challenging and where having a second person is absolutely necessary? I would also like to know if the assembly can actually be carried out smoothly by a single, but experienced, handyman.
