ᐅ What should I do if parts are missing from the IKEA Brimnes delivery?

uspi5Hello everyone, a few days ago I ordered an IKEA Brimnes piece of furniture and when unpacking it, I noticed that essential parts for assembly were missing. Specifically, screws and wooden connectors that are absolutely required according to the instructions are not included.
I would like to know how you handle such situations: Do you contact IKEA directly with photos? What has been your experience with customer service regarding missing parts? Is there a way to get the missing parts replaced quickly and easily? Are there any tips on which department or contact point within IKEA is best to reach out to if the hotline tends to have long wait times?
I am looking for practical advice since I would like to complete the furniture soon and cannot continue assembling it as is. Thanks in advance for your support!

Hello uspi5, that’s really frustrating, but this kind of thing actually happens fairly often at IKEA, I know from experience. 😅
My advice: Call IKEA as soon as possible. They usually have a dedicated department that ships replacement parts – often free of charge!
Personally, I had this happen once, and after a brief explanation (with the order number ready), the replacement package arrived within 3 days.
Sometimes it also helps to visit the IKEA store in person, where you can go directly to the service desk, and they are often very accommodating. It’s important to specify exactly what is missing, preferably using the part name from the instructions.
Good luck, you’ll probably get this sorted quickly! 👍

I am specifically missing screws and wood connectors that are listed as mandatory in the instructions. This is indeed critical because the Brimnes system relies on a stable connection. If screws and wood connectors are missing, I would recommend the following process:
- First, check carefully whether the parts might be hidden somewhere within the packaging layers; sometimes they are in small bags that are easy to overlook.
- Then have your order number ready, as customer service cannot assist you directly without it.
- If you contact IKEA, I suggest calling by phone, since they usually respond faster than by email. You can also request repair kits directly there.
- If it involves a faulty complete package—with several missing parts—it makes sense to take a quick inventory of the entire box contents and inform IKEA accordingly.
- Also ask whether the replacement parts will be shipped directly or if you can pick them up at a store location.
What are the exact dimensions of your furniture piece? Sometimes there are different versions that require alternative fastening methods and thus different parts. This can affect the solution.

Most of the time, they have a separate department that sends spare parts – often free of charge! That’s true, I’ve been in similar situations and I know how frustrating it can be to have to stop building, especially after you’ve invested time and motivation. I fully understand how annoying that is.
Sometimes it unfortunately takes a while for spare parts to arrive, which really tests your patience. What helped me was to simultaneously look for an alternative, for example buying small screws myself if they are the very common type – just in case.
I also asked the friendly customer service team back then for a definite delivery time. That provides a bit more certainty and reduces the uncertainty.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you get your replacement parts as soon as possible! And please keep us updated on how things develop.
Here is a structured approach to follow if parts are missing from the delivery of IKEA Brimnes furniture:
- Step 1: Carefully check the packaging – sometimes small parts are in separate bags or hidden in cavities.
- Step 2: Have the shipping documents or order receipt ready.
- Step 3: Contact IKEA customer service via the official contact form or by phone.
- Step 4: Provide precise information, especially the item number of the furniture, the missing parts, and, if possible, the quantity.
- Step 5: Clarify whether replacement parts will be sent free of charge or if a pickup appointment at the store is possible.
- Step 6: Document any additional defects or damages, if applicable.
IKEA is considered customer-friendly in such cases, and replacement parts are usually delivered within a few business days. In case of delays or issues, it is possible to follow up and request goodwill.
This procedure is well-tested and publicly listed, so a sustainable solution is realistic.
