Hello everyone,

I noticed that one of the doors on my IKEA Platsa system is warped. The door doesn’t close properly and seems to stick out slightly from the frame on one side. I have already tried adjusting the hinges, but the issue remains. My question is: what steps are recommended to fix a warped door on the IKEA Platsa system? Are there specific tips or tools that can help? Or is a slight deformation considered a warranty case with IKEA?

I would like to avoid having to replace the door entirely if there are simple repair options available. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hello Jackma,

I am familiar with your issue of warped doors on PLATSA and have repaired this several times. First of all: The doors on PLATSA are usually made of MDF or particleboard with a foil coating, which can easily warp due to moisture or stress.

You can try the following steps:
- Fully loosen the hinge screws and carefully realign the door before tightening them again.
- Check if the hinges are properly installed and tighten them if necessary.
- For minor warping, gently moistening the warped side sometimes helps; then place a weight on the door to straighten it and let it dry.
- Alternatively, if available, you can use small washers at the hinge points to slightly adjust the door.

Unfortunately, warping is usually not covered under warranty, as it is mostly caused by environmental factors, but IKEA may replace it in case of significant material defects. I recommend carefully adjusting the door yourself and monitoring the situation. If the warping worsens or the door remains difficult to open and close, replacement would be advisable.

Feel free to reach out if you need help with the adjustment!

Loosen the door hinges, realign the door, and tighten the screws. Replace the door if there is significant warping. IKEA usually offers a 10-year warranty on functionality.

That is exactly the main issue. It’s worth checking step by step how much the material has actually warped. The best way is:

- Remove the door from its hinges and lay it on a flat surface.
- Use a straight edge or ruler to measure the degree of deformation.
- If only one edge is visibly warped, lightly dampening the back side can help, but be careful not to damage the material further.
- After dampening, weigh down the door with a counterweight and let it dry completely.

I also recommend checking that all screws on the hinges and mounting hardware are tight. Sometimes the problem is hidden in loose hinges causing poor alignment.

What kind of room is the PLATSA installed in? High humidity or temperature fluctuations can affect the wood, increasing the chance of warping.

If you like, please also describe exactly how the door is warped—bent upwards or downwards, or more of a sideways distortion? That way, more targeted advice can be given.

I have already tried that, but there is a noticeable bow at the middle height of the door. The door warps outward, so it fits flush with the frame at the top edge, but the bottom edge sticks out a bit.

The wardrobe is in a bedroom where the humidity level is rather normal. There are no strong fluctuations because the room is well insulated and heated.

I will soon try gently moistening and weighting it down and report back. Otherwise, I would welcome further advice, especially regarding replacement options.

That’s a good sign, as actual material deformation due to extreme humidity is then less likely.

If the door bow curves outward in the center, it is likely that the veneer or surface material on the front has slightly expanded, possibly due to mild moisture or temperature effects combined with the manufacturing process.

My advice:
- Check if there are any small stress cracks in the paint or veneer on the front of the door.
- If not, you can try weighting down the door lightly from the inside as a counterweight, possibly combined with gentle pressure.
- Be cautious when adding moisture: only slightly damp, not wet, and allow it to dry completely afterward.

If this does not improve the situation, it may be worth contacting IKEA customer service. Explain that the door has warped under normal conditions; they might consider it a warranty case, especially if the PLATSA unit is still fairly new. In the worst case, replacing the door panel without exchanging the entire cabinet should be possible.
