ᐅ What to do if a door of an IKEA PLATSA unit is warped?

Hello everyone,

I noticed that one of the doors on my IKEA Platsa system is warped. The door doesn’t close properly and seems to stick out slightly from the frame on one side. I have already tried adjusting the hinges, but the issue remains. My question is: what steps are recommended to fix a warped door on the IKEA Platsa system? Are there specific tips or tools that can help? Or is a slight deformation considered a warranty case with IKEA?

I would like to avoid having to replace the door entirely if there are simple repair options available. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Good morning,

I’ve also experienced a few issues with warped doors on Platsa – but nothing disastrous!

If you want to try moistening the door: do it sparingly and avoid using blunt tools. One method that worked for me was lightly dampening a thin towel and placing it on the back of the door. Then weigh it down for several hours, for example with stacks of books.

This usually works quite well if the warping is minor. Otherwise, don’t hesitate to contact IKEA customer service—they are usually very straightforward about replacing the door if it’s still under warranty.

Good luck, and thanks for sharing your issue—you can tell you’ve really thought it through!

To add to my previous comments:

You should regularly tighten the hinges on PLATSA doors, as they tend to loosen with use.

If the door warps, you can also adjust the contact surface on the hinge plate on the door. However, if the door has been installed for a longer period, replacing the door front is usually the only solution.

If you want to work more comfortably, a small cordless screwdriver with a hex bit can be very useful – this allows you to quickly adjust the setting screws.

Finally: If the door warps due to faulty workmanship, the warranty applies. Otherwise, it is considered normal wear and tear, as is common with natural wood products.

Hope this helps.

I’m about to try gentle moistening and weighting and will report back.

How’s it going for you now? Did moistening and weighting help? This is often a useful trick, especially with doors warped in the middle.

If not, keep an eye on the warranty and don’t hesitate to contact IKEA. They are usually quite accommodating with PLATSA when it comes to normal wear or manufacturing defects.

And if you have any questions about adjusting the hinges, feel free to ask—I’m happy to help.
