Gerd51Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of properly attaching IKEA Metod baseboards to different types of flooring and would appreciate well-informed tips and practical experiences. Specifically, I am looking at installation on laminate, tile, and vinyl floors. I understand that each type of flooring has different requirements for gluing or screwing, especially considering possible floor movement or the compatibility of fastening materials. How do you handle this best, particularly with regard to a durable and visually clean solution? Which screws, adhesives, or clips are suitable, and what should be avoided? I am also interested in whether there are differences depending on whether the floor is floating or fully glued down. Thank you in advance for your help!
Hello Gerd51, I can definitely understand how challenging it can be to find the right fastening methods—especially when dealing with different types of flooring! For laminate, I usually recommend the original IKEA clips, which attach directly to the baseboards and are anchored to the floor with small screws or nails. But be careful with floating laminate floors: the floor must not be fixed, otherwise it won’t be able to expand. For tiles, you generally have a solid substrate, so you can use wall plugs (also known as anchors) and appropriate screws—this holds very securely. Vinyl floors are tricky; it’s better to use adhesive or double-sided special tape to avoid damaging the surface with screws. I was uncertain myself for a long time and had to try several different methods over the years—but now it works well! Don’t get discouraged, you can manage it.
Hey Gerd51, I love it when practical solutions are found for different types of flooring! With vinyl, I’ve had great experience using special installation adhesives that remain flexible but still hold firmly! And for laminate – as mentioned – use clips, but be careful that the floor is not restricted! So no screws into the floor! Tiles can be securely fixed with anchors, so there’s no creaking at all. You’ve got this! 🙂

CHRISTOP3328 May 2015 10:17Hello! So, I simply fixed the baseboards on my laminate flooring using IKEA clips, then attached the clips with small screws into the substructure, not into the floor itself—something you shouldn’t forget, otherwise you’ll have problems with the floor! For tiles, I used hammer-in anchors, and for vinyl, I prefer to glue them on—it’s a bit like ‘baseboard yoga,’ you have to stay flexible 😉
