Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of properly attaching IKEA Metod baseboards to different types of flooring and would appreciate well-informed tips and practical experiences. Specifically, I am looking at installation on laminate, tile, and vinyl floors. I understand that each type of flooring has different requirements for gluing or screwing, especially considering possible floor movement or the compatibility of fastening materials. How do you handle this best, particularly with regard to a durable and visually clean solution? Which screws, adhesives, or clips are suitable, and what should be avoided? I am also interested in whether there are differences depending on whether the floor is floating or fully glued down. Thank you in advance for your help!

For laminate flooring, I usually recommend the original IKEA clips, which can be attached directly to the baseboards and anchored to the subfloor with small screws or nails. But be careful with floating laminate floors: the floor must not be fixed in place, otherwise it cannot expand. This is really an important point. At first, I had trouble because I tried to screw the moldings directly onto the laminate – this caused unwanted tension and minor damage. After switching to clips, there have been no more problems. The same applies to vinyl flooring; it’s best to avoid mechanical fasteners because the material is delicate.
Really interesting here! When it comes to tiles, I prefer using hammer-in anchors; they hold very securely and the baseboards are rock solid. For laminate flooring, I always use clips, because the floor needs to be able to move – otherwise, you get problems! And for vinyl, double-sided tape works best – it holds well and looks neat! Keep it up, everyone 🙂

In my experience, it’s best to first carefully check how the floor is installed in order to choose the appropriate fastening methods. It’s also important to keep in mind that materials can expand and contract slightly depending on room temperature and humidity. Especially with vinyl, a flexible adhesive is therefore advisable.

‘Skirting board yoga’ – you have to stay flexible 😉That sums it up quite well! My recommendation is therefore not just to focus on the fastening, but also on the quality of the material itself. Sometimes it’s worth investing in higher-quality clips or adhesives so the result lasts in the long term without unpleasant surprises.
Be patient – well done is better than quickly done!
