Hello everyone, I have the following problem: after installing new doors on my IKEA Kallax cabinet, the laminate has started to peel off at the inner edges of the doors. The doors are custom-made from wood and were fitted into the existing Kallax structure. Previously, the laminate on both the doors and the cabinet body was securely attached, but now it is peeling directly at the door hinge areas.
The laminate is a few years old but still looks fine and feels solid otherwise. I suspect that the new door hardware or the different stress on the door area is now putting tension on the laminate, which might be affecting the adhesive.
My questions: What can I specifically do to reattach or reglue the laminate? Are there special adhesives or techniques that work well? Do I need to replace the laminate entirely, or can the surface be repaired?
I would appreciate it if anyone has experience with this issue and can offer some advice.

Place felt or rubber pads at the contact points of the door.Okay, that sounds very sensible, thanks. I will try that right away.
One more question: Is there a specific type of tape that can be used to temporarily or permanently secure laminate flooring, in case I want to hold it in place provisionally until I can get the appropriate adhesive?

I agree with barle, tape is more of a temporary solution. If you want to permanently repair the laminate on the furniture, a transparent contact adhesive or PU glue (polyurethane) is recommended. The bonding surface should be dry and clean for the best hold.
For the doors, you could also check whether the hinges are attached to solid wood or particle board – too soft substrates can cause loosening.

Hey, I had a similar issue – my solution was simple: add bumpers to the door, loosen the door latch a bit, and as soon as I had time, carefully screwed in small wood screws with some wood glue dots under the laminate. Yes, you read that right, I gently installed tiny screws beneath the laminate to reinforce the attachment.
Of course, it’s not the most elegant solution, but it works great and gives the laminate support against pulling forces. Just be patient while the glue dries, and you’re done.
Try starting with the bumpers first; it reduces the stress. If you want something colorful, mine even have colored rubber bumpers, which adds a bit of cheer 🙂 Good luck!
