ᐅ After installing new doors, the laminate flooring in the storage unit is coming loose – what should I do now?

Hello everyone, I have the following problem: after installing new doors on my IKEA Kallax cabinet, the laminate has started to peel off at the inner edges of the doors. The doors are custom-made from wood and were fitted into the existing Kallax structure. Previously, the laminate on both the doors and the cabinet body was securely attached, but now it is peeling directly at the door hinge areas.

The laminate is a few years old but still looks fine and feels solid otherwise. I suspect that the new door hardware or the different stress on the door area is now putting tension on the laminate, which might be affecting the adhesive.

My questions: What can I specifically do to reattach or reglue the laminate? Are there special adhesives or techniques that work well? Do I need to replace the laminate entirely, or can the surface be repaired?

I would appreciate it if anyone has experience with this issue and can offer some advice.

my solution was simple: buffers on the door, loosen the door latch a bit, and as soon as I had time, screwed the laminate down with small spots of wood glue underneath.

Interesting idea, thanks! The small screws sound feasible to me and will probably hold better than just glue.

I will definitely start by installing the buffers and loosening the hinges, those are simple steps I can do quickly. If that’s not enough, I’ll move on to the screw solution.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Good morning, Emrecan0, have you had a chance to implement the suggested tips? Adjusting the hinges and adding buffers usually help prevent further damage.

If you are careful when screwing under the laminate, you can significantly improve stability. It is important that the subfloor remains in good condition.

If you have any questions about the procedure, I am happy to help.

Hello Julien, thanks for asking. Yesterday, I fine-tuned the door hinges a bit and added small felt strips as buffers, which helped to prevent further detachment. I haven’t re-glued the laminate yet; I plan to do that soon using a strong contact adhesive.

I’ll get back to you if I encounter any more problems or have questions!
