ᐅ Advantages of Solid Wood Planks Compared to Laminate Flooring

Vega82Is there even still one available?
I am specifically talking about engineered hardwood flooring, not solid hardwood.
Basically, it consists of two layers of wood as the base and a thin wear layer on top.
Laminate, on the other hand, has a substrate made of particleboard, a decorative layer, and a protective coating.
As a non-expert, I currently see more advantages with laminate because it requires less maintenance.
So, what really speaks in favor of engineered hardwood flooring, besides the fact that it is real wood and not a printed design?

They feel different. Maintenance effort is the same. Laminate offers more design options and is generally less expensive. Hardwood flooring can be sanded and refinished.
It's a matter of personal preference; we chose hardwood flooring exclusively because we prefer to walk on real wood...

Hello,
Yes, I was just about to write something similar. I also think there’s a difference in how the floor feels, especially referring to the term “warm underfoot.”
Additionally, there’s the question of noise—how much you can hear people walking on it. Or is that only an issue with cheap laminate flooring that tends to make clicking sounds?
Parquet flooring is often more delicate, while laminate is easier to maintain. On the other hand, you can sand and refinish wood floors, but with laminate, you generally need to replace the entire floor.
It really comes down to personal preference. There was also a discussion in this forum about hybrid floors. The brand mentioned was “Lindura.”

We have hardwood flooring and would never choose laminate.

Real hardwood parquet still looks good after 20 years, even with various small scratches (at least to me). Laminate, on the other hand, is particularly sensitive to moisture and can look worn out quickly. Regarding maintenance: with parquet, you only need to do a deep clean every once in a while... How often you need to dust is probably about the same. So, I would choose parquet! Or cork or carpet.
