bela44Hello everyone,
I am interested in the quality of the drawer slides used in IKEA Brimnes furniture. Specifically, I would like to know how durable and long-lasting they are, especially with frequent use. Do they operate smoothly with somewhat heavier contents, such as books or kitchen utensils, without the slides wearing out quickly or getting stuck?
Also, it would be helpful if someone could share their experience with installation and any necessary adjustments. For example, are there common issues with alignment, or do the drawers tend to stick? If anyone can compare the different versions (such as the soft-close version versus the standard one), that would be very interesting as well.
Looking forward to your assessments and tips!

I am interested in the quality of the drawer slides on the IKEA BRIMNES furniture.Hey, you picked an interesting topic! 😄
I have had two BRIMNES dressers for almost 3 years now, mostly filled with books. The slides work pretty smoothly for me, although they obviously aren’t a high-end product.
They run quietly and you just need to occasionally adjust the drawers slightly. They’re definitely sturdy, but I wouldn’t put very heavy items inside, as you can feel some extra resistance when opening. I don’t think BRIMNES has soft-close, it’s more of a standard slide setup, but nothing gets stuck for me.
Assembly was quite easy with the instructions, but precise alignment is important, otherwise they might catch. Overall, great value and stylish for the price!

I am particularly interested in how durable and long-lasting these are, especially with frequent use.The topic of drawer slides, especially in affordable furniture like BRIMNES, deserves a closer look. I have owned several BRIMNES dressers myself, and the sliding systems are basically simple metal slides made from about 2 mm (0.08 inches) steel sheet, with the runners gliding on plastic sliders.
The load capacity is estimated at around 10–15 kg (22–33 lbs) per drawer. Under heavier loads, you notice increased friction, and the slides can easily bend if installed incorrectly, which leads to wear over time.
For installation, it is important that:
- the drawer is aligned precisely,
- all screws are firmly tightened,
- the cabinet frame is neither warped nor damaged.
Soft-close is not standard on BRIMNES; if present, it usually consists of simple damping elements.
My advice: if you plan to store heavier items, it is better to opt for more robust slide systems from specialized suppliers. For typical household use and moderate frequency, the BRIMNES slides are sufficiently reliable.
Are you mainly planning to store light or heavy items? That could help make the recommendation more precise.
Hello bela44,
I would like to add that, in terms of quality, the slides for BRIMNES are quite suitable for everyday use. It is important to check the drawers after installation and make minor adjustments at the first signs of scraping or sticking to maintain smooth operation.
I can confirm this. In my opinion, it is a rather simplified system without special damping. Regarding durability: if the slides are not overloaded and are used carefully on a regular basis, a lifespan of at least 5 years is realistic.
If you ever encounter problems: the drawers are relatively easy to pull out, and you can reposition the slides without needing complex tools. Good luck!

Based on my analysis of the BRIMNES drawer slides, I can summarize the following:
- Material: galvanized steel sheet with plastic runners
- Load capacity: empirically recommended around 12-15 kg (26-33 lbs)
- Operation: smooth and consistent when properly installed, without damping
- Wear: typical wear on plastic runners after approximately 3-5 years of average use
The installation recommendation is to attach the slides exactly parallel to the cabinet and fit the drawer correctly to prevent misalignment. There is no factory-installed soft-close mechanism.
These slides are not ideal for heavy loads or professional use. However, they are functionally sufficient for private use and moderate loads.
Please note that variations in installation and usage can significantly affect durability.
