Hello everyone, I am currently assembling the IKEA Brimnes bedroom furniture set and encountering a few challenges that I assume others have experienced as well. Therefore, my question is: What practical tips and tricks are there to make the assembly of BRIMNES as smooth, quick, and safe as possible? I am especially looking for guidance on the optimal sequence of assembly, advice on handling the sometimes confusing instructions, and experiences on how to avoid mistakes in individual steps. I am also particularly interested in recommendations regarding tools, preparation, and how to make the often somewhat tricky fastening of the fittings more efficient. Thank you in advance for your feedback!
Using a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque is highly recommended when assembling Brimnes to avoid over-tightening the screws.
Additional tips:
- Number or mark the parts before starting to prevent confusion.
- Make sure to align the floor supports precisely, otherwise the furniture will be crooked.
- Pre-drill all holes to prevent splitting.
The assembly sequence should follow the instructions, as BRIMNES is built modularly and later steps depend on earlier ones.

A particularly practical approach is to prepare the larger components individually outside the assembly area. With the BRIMNES, for example, it is advisable to first fully assemble the main frame, then put the drawers together separately. Once all the currently unwieldy parts are completed, this significantly simplifies the assembly in the room.
Additionally, I recommend the following steps:
- Take your time fitting the drawer runners, as this is often where problems arise.
- Use fine sandpaper on edges if something fits too tightly.
This way, you can avoid frustration and rework.

Have there been cases where you absolutely have to follow a different sequence? Yes, assembling the drawers first and then inserting them into the carcass works better than the other way around.
Regarding the tools:
If you want to be absolutely sure, you should use a torque wrench attachment for your cordless screwdriver.
The parts in the BRIMNES are sturdy, but the fittings can wear out quickly or damage the wood.
Using a good protective surface also prevents scratches on the parts during assembly. It’s best to use a large cardboard box or the included blankets.

Note on the instructions: Sometimes the diagrams for BRIMNES are not entirely precise regarding the orientation of the parts. Therefore, I always compare the description with the actual shape of the part side by side.
If something doesn't fit, it is usually due to the orientation rather than a manufacturing defect.
