DabafoHello everyone, I’m starting a focused discussion on the topic of Ikea Besta and the assembly of its furniture. I’ve noticed that this system often brings up various assembly issues that can quickly become quite stressful. I’m especially interested in which steps or parts cause the most difficulties for you and why.
I think it would be helpful if we not only identify the problems but also share practical solutions or workarounds. For example, I’ve found that connecting the side panels to the back panel is often tricky, especially when working alone and with somewhat unclear instructions.
Have you had similar experiences or other particularly frustrating challenges when assembling Besta? How do you effectively solve these? Looking forward to your opinions and tips!

In my experience, the main issue often lies in the poor quality of the instructions and the very generic nature of the components.
For example, when attaching the back panel: is it really the back panel itself, or the lack of precise marking for the drill holes that causes frustration? I often see users simply don’t have a clear plan of which part goes where.
A follow-up question would be: do you use only the Ikea instructions, or do you supplement them with your own sketches or digital tools? I’m also curious whether the stress increases exponentially with larger setups, such as those involving multiple modules.

praWarre6915 Mar 2018 09:31Hello everyone! I completely understand the frustration when the parts just don’t fit together properly – it can really get on your nerves, no doubt! 😅
With Besta, I often had the issue that small items like anchors and screws weren’t sorted neatly in the packaging, which makes searching forever. My advice: sort everything by type first before starting to assemble.
Interestingly, a little reorganization like this can significantly reduce stress – and hey, maybe it will even help the instructions flow better. 😄
Oh, and never start without good lighting; my eyes thank me every time!

In my experience, the biggest challenge with Besta is the precise fit of the back panel and the shelves.
- Always attach the back panel so it rests lightly at first, do not screw it in completely
- Then close the side panels, and only after that fully screw in the back panel
- Always insert the shelves according to the measurements and, if necessary, lightly sand the edges
This way, many fitting errors can be avoided.

The following points have always caused me stress:
- Anchor bolts that don’t fully seat or are crooked
- Mounting clips that are difficult to connect
Solution: Carefully tap the anchors in with a hammer and lightly treat the clips with lubricant (e.g., petroleum jelly) before assembling them.

Attaching the hinges at Besta can sometimes be a source of frustration. 😅
When I have assembled the cabinet, the doors don’t fit properly because the drill holes aren’t exactly in the right spot or are slightly misaligned.
My tip: Always screw the hinges in loosely first, then test whether the doors sit correctly before tightening them fully. Patience is key here!
