Hello everyone, I’m starting a focused discussion on the topic of Ikea Besta and the assembly of its furniture. I’ve noticed that this system often brings up various assembly issues that can quickly become quite stressful. I’m especially interested in which steps or parts cause the most difficulties for you and why.

I think it would be helpful if we not only identify the problems but also share practical solutions or workarounds. For example, I’ve found that connecting the side panels to the back panel is often tricky, especially when working alone and with somewhat unclear instructions.

Have you had similar experiences or other particularly frustrating challenges when assembling Besta? How do you effectively solve these? Looking forward to your opinions and tips!

Hey everyone! I totally understand how frustrating this can be. But I see it as an opportunity to have a little DIY adventure! 😊

My approach is the following:
- Lay out and catalog all components before assembly
- Sort all screws, wall plugs, and small parts by type
- Before each step, check that all parts are ready and the instructions are correctly understood

This way, stress stays low and you feel in control step by step.

A quick tip: Having someone to help is really valuable, even if it’s just to hold parts in place.

My tip: Always screw the hinges in loosely first, then test if the doors fit properly in place, and only then tighten them.

Although this is a classic approach, it often isn’t enough. The exact positioning of the drill holes on Ikea Besta units is not always perfect.

In my opinion, Ikea compromises in production where it’s least noticeable, but unfortunately, it becomes visible in the end.

From my point of view, it’s worth adjusting the holes if necessary or pre-drilling them yourself to achieve a more precise result.

I don’t think this statement can be generalized like that.

In many cases, the problem lies more with the user and insufficient preparation. The system is modular and flexible – which can cause uncertainty if instructions are not followed carefully or parts are mixed up.

It is important to distinguish clearly between manufacturing defects and user errors. Especially with DIY furniture, personal responsibility should not be underestimated.

I agree with this point, but I also see a gray area: What happens within a certain tolerance range allowed by Ikea for manufacturing?

This can result in two identical modules not fitting together perfectly when combined. Here, the boundary between system standardization and real material variability becomes apparent.

An analysis of how often this issue occurs and which parts are affected would greatly enrich the discussion.

Thank you for the contributions so far, very good! To summarize, I see that the following points are frequently mentioned:

- Back panel installation and its fit accuracy
- Difficulty correctly inserting dowels and screws
- Inaccuracies in drill holes, especially for hinges
- Missing or unclear assembly instructions

I also find the perspectives on the causes interesting – manufacturing tolerances versus user error.

I would be interested to know if anyone has found serious solutions, such as their own additions to the instructions, alternative tools, or tricks that make assembly less stressful.

Specifically: How do you handle the back panel when it doesn’t fit well? Do you simply force it in, or are there better ways to avoid deadlocks? And how much effort is involved in precisely adjusting door hinges without damaging the panels?
