Hello everyone,

I am planning to use the IKEA PAX wardrobe in my new home, but I have very high ceilings with about 3.30 m (10 ft 10 in) room height. Therefore, I am wondering which PAX models or versions are particularly suitable for tall rooms. Specifically, I am interested in whether there are models with taller cabinet or door heights, or if it is possible to achieve a practical height through combinations and add-on elements without it looking odd.

Additionally, I would like to know how the assembly process is for the taller models and whether it is necessary to pay special attention to stability and anchoring during installation, as I want to use the wardrobe up nearly to the ceiling. Perhaps you have experience or specific tips on PAX models that are ideal for high rooms or advice on alternatives within the series.

Looking forward to your insights!

Hello Zumase,

Regarding your question about PAX models for high ceilings, I can explain a few important details. Basically, IKEA offers different cabinet heights for PAX, which are relevant here:

- Standard heights are 201 cm (79 inches) and 236 cm (93 inches).
- The 236 cm (93 inches) version is the tallest cabinet frame that IKEA officially offers.

To accommodate a room height of 3.30 m (10 ft 10 in), it’s common to use additional topping pieces, such as plinths or decorative moldings, which add about 10-20 cm (4-8 inches). This adjusts the total height accordingly.

Another option is to combine tall doors—like the 236 cm (93 inches) doors—with a 201 cm (79 inches) cabinet frame. This creates a taller look but requires careful planning. Stability is crucial here since the wardrobe should be securely anchored to the wall, especially if it really extends to the ceiling. Otherwise, it can be dangerous if the wardrobe tips over.

I recommend measuring your room precisely and checking the floor condition. It’s often worthwhile to plan the cabinet combinations before assembly: 236 cm (93 inches) cabinet frame + plinth + crown molding. As an installation tip: always use at least three wall anchors and ensure the wardrobe is level.

Are there any special features in your room, such as sloped ceilings or other built-in situations? These could significantly affect the model choice and installation.

For very tall rooms, I recommend the PAX frame with a height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in), which is the tallest option.

You can use extension strips to reach the ceiling.

Important: Be sure to secure the wardrobe to the wall!

Hey Zumase, your ceiling height sounds exciting! 😊

I built a PAX wardrobe myself with a height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in) plus a top panel – it looks great and makes full use of the space!

Great tip: definitely use the ceiling trim, there are special ones for PAX, which really finishes the look nicely and gives it a high-quality feel.

And don’t worry about installation: attaching it to the wall is definitely worth it and safe!

Good luck, you’ve got this! 💪

Absolutely correct, this is not a luxury but a safety measure. With a room height of 3.30 m (10 ft 10 in), the leverage effect increases the risk of tipping significantly.

Exactly, the so-called "cover strips" fit perfectly and hide any height differences. I would also recommend carefully securing the vertical connections between the modules during assembly – especially for taller PAX configurations, small errors can cause problems later on.

Finally, a question for you, Zumase: How are you planning the interior fittings? Do you want many shelves, drawers, or mostly hanging rails? This can also affect stability depending on the height and model.
