Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a new wardrobe system and considering buying an Ikea Pax wardrobe. I am particularly interested in the question: Which Ikea Pax wardrobe types are especially space-saving when you want to maximize storage capacity in smaller or narrow rooms using as little floor space as possible?

I imagine that, for example, narrow models or those with multiple levels could be advantageous, but I am unsure which options offer the best combination of space efficiency and capacity. Maybe there are door types, interior fittings, or specific module types that are especially helpful in this regard?

I am really looking forward to your experiences and opinions on this topic!

Ikea offers PAX wardrobes with a depth of 35cm (14 inches), which makes them much less space-consuming.

Thanks, I actually wasn’t aware of the 35cm (14 inches) depth option. Are there any limitations with the interior fittings (like clothing rods) for that depth? I’m asking because I plan to hang shirts and jackets long-term, which need some space.

Would it be better to go for a deeper wardrobe, or are there interior fittings specially designed for the 35cm (14 inches) depth?

Yes, with a depth of 35cm (14 inches), long clothing hardly fits inside; these are usually designed for shorter items and compartments.

If you want to hang shirts and jackets, wardrobes with a depth of 58cm (23 inches) work better but offer less space-saving.

In small apartments, I often use a combination of narrow cabinets (50cm (20 inches) wide) and module-specific shelves with drawers. This saves space while keeping things organized.

Sliding doors are truly a game changer in narrow or tight spaces. This way, you don’t need to keep an area in front of the cabinet free.

That’s an important tip, thanks. For me, the smaller cabinets were also too tight for my clothes. Maybe narrower cabinets can be used as a supplement, and slightly larger, deeper ones as the main solution.
