Hello everyone, I just assembled my IKEA PAX wardrobe and noticed that some screws are either missing or damaged. I’m wondering what the best approach is to replace the missing or broken screws in such a case. Should I contact IKEA directly, order replacement parts online, or are alternative screws from a hardware store a good option? I don’t want to make any mistakes, especially since PAX needs to be quite stable, and I don’t want the structure to be compromised. Does anyone have experience or advice on how to find suitable replacement screws and the best way to proceed if something is missing or damaged?

Simply order replacement parts from IKEA; they usually arrive quickly. Hardware stores are only a last resort because dimensions and threads often don’t match exactly.

I find the approach of using hardware store screws somewhat questionable. The Pax systems are designed so that the screws precisely match the material and the load requirements. Anyone who improvises risks long-term damage.

You could also look at it this way: What is the downside of ordering the official replacement parts?

- For me, it would be important to know whether IKEA really offers free replacements or if that only applies to new purchases.
- If anyone has used hardware store screws before: Which type/brand did you use, and what was the outcome?

That is exactly my thought. I just want to be sure that the structural integrity is not compromised and that the cabinet remains stable.

IKEA often replaces screws free of charge if you have the purchase receipt and it concerns a defect. Just contact customer service; this usually works.

I know that feeling well; sometimes customer service isn’t very fast or you feel like you’re stuck in a loop. It’s best to ask politely but firmly and insist that this is a matter of safety.
That way, you hold customer service accountable – after all, PAX is supposed to be safe!

Hey! If the assembly gets frustrating, a handy trick is to unscrew broken dowels a bit and then replace them with slightly sturdier ones from the hardware store – but only if there’s really no other option.
However, it’s better to use the original part, since PAX can be a bit tricky if you’re not careful.
Be patient when ordering replacement parts – and remember: No cabinet is perfect, but with the right tools and a bottle of water, it usually gets better 😄
