I am currently planning to install several Ikea Metod cabinets in my kitchen and want to focus especially on maximum stability. My question is for anyone with experience: How can I assemble Ikea Metod cabinets so that they remain stable and sturdy over time, especially when installing tall cabinets or placing several side by side? Are there any special assembly techniques, additional reinforcements, or installation methods I should be aware of to prevent wobbling and ensure a secure structure in the long term? I definitely intend to use the standard screws and dowels correctly, but perhaps there are tips for wall mounting or connecting the individual units that go beyond the manual. I look forward to practical advice and shared experiences!

Hey, that sounds like a really exciting project! :-)

A small tip from me: try assembling the cabinets completely before installation and then mount them on the wall as a whole unit. This helped me a lot because everything is securely connected and nothing wobbles.

Don’t forget: proper adjustment of the feet is essential! When the cabinets are level, there is no load on the wrong spots, and the whole setup becomes much more stable. Good luck, you can do it! 🙂

Be sure to use the supplied connector to join cabinets together.

This advice is generally correct, but it’s important to consider how many connectors are actually needed. It’s common to rely solely on the mounting points provided in the instructions, yet adding connectors in the middle or at weak spots significantly increases rigidity.

Furthermore, the question arises whether wall mounting alone is sufficient to prevent tipping, or if additional horizontal braces or brackets at the back panel should be considered.

Using standard connectors and anchors is a good starting point, but from a technical perspective, I would recommend reinforcing potential weak points specifically. This can also be done with simple measures when using Ikea Metod systems.

That’s an excellent point. Especially with very tall cabinets or cabinets mounted on less load-bearing sections of the wall, additional reinforcements such as brackets or metal crossbars can be installed. However, you need to be careful not to make the drill holes in the back panel too large, as this can reduce the panel’s stability.

Another option for stabilization is to install a baseboard or cross slats at the bottom, which secures the cabinets against lateral shifting.

Feel free to share how tall your cabinets are and how much weight you plan to store on them – then I can offer more specific advice.
