I am currently planning to install several Ikea Metod cabinets in my kitchen and want to focus especially on maximum stability. My question is for anyone with experience: How can I assemble Ikea Metod cabinets so that they remain stable and sturdy over time, especially when installing tall cabinets or placing several side by side? Are there any special assembly techniques, additional reinforcements, or installation methods I should be aware of to prevent wobbling and ensure a secure structure in the long term? I definitely intend to use the standard screws and dowels correctly, but perhaps there are tips for wall mounting or connecting the individual units that go beyond the manual. I look forward to practical advice and shared experiences!

It is important to assemble each cabinet exactly with the supplied screws and wall plugs. Always use the included connector to join cabinets together. When attaching to the wall, use appropriate wall plugs and screws, not just drywall anchors, if possible. This will provide good stability.

A few technical additions regarding stability for Ikea Metod:

- Make sure to assemble the cabinets on a level surface; uneven floors should be compensated for, for example with adjustable feet or wedges.
- The connection between cabinets should be done using the provided connectors. These distribute the load and prevent tipping movements.
- Wall mounting is essential, especially for tall cabinets: ideally use heavy-duty anchors or metal fixings depending on the wall type (concrete, brick, drywall).
- Avoid using screws that are too long in the back panel, especially if the material is thin, to prevent damage.
- If heavy loads are expected (e.g., many appliances in tall cabinets), you can also install angle brackets inside for additional support.

What is the condition of your wall? Drywall, concrete, or brick?

What type of wall do you have? Drywall, concrete, or brick?

The wall is a solid masonry brick wall, load-bearing and sturdy. I was thinking about using heavy-duty anchors. I would also connect the cabinets directly to each other. What is the best way to do this exactly? Is it enough to connect all adjacent cabinets multiple times, or are just a few fixed points sufficient? I am concerned that the whole setup might become unstable if I only attach them to the wall but the cabinets are loosely positioned relative to each other.

I recommend connecting all side-by-side cabinets with at least two fasteners both at the top and bottom. This creates a solid unit that won’t warp. Additionally, secure all tall cabinets to the wall using heavy-duty anchors, with at least 3 screws per cabinet spaced evenly along the height. This ensures optimal stability. The mounting points should be specified in the installation manual, so follow those instructions carefully.

I can understand the concerns well. When joining the cabinets, it is really important to secure them at multiple points rather than just at a few spots. Otherwise, there is a risk that a cabinet might shift slightly under load. I also recommend, especially with tall cabinets, to keep an eye on the weight from the start—place heavy items in the lower compartments and avoid storing too much on top to reduce the risk of tipping. What helped me was taking everything step by step, not rushing, and repeatedly checking to ensure everything was still firmly in place.
