Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into buying a new wardrobe from Ikea’s Pax series. I am particularly interested in whether there are Pax wardrobes that come with an integrated power outlet for lighting solutions or if it is generally easy to add such outlets afterwards.

Specifically, I want to know if Ikea offers these variants themselves, or if you usually have to rely on external solutions for the lighting. Has anyone had experience with a Pax wardrobe that comes with a factory-installed power outlet, or can recommend good methods to provide power for LEDs or other lighting inside the wardrobe?

Looking forward to your feedback and advice!

Hello Manan57,

I understand your request well. Ikea does not offer integrated power outlets as standard in their Pax wardrobes. This means that if you want lighting with power supply directly inside the wardrobe, you usually have to rely on accessories or custom solutions.

Here is a brief overview:

- Ikea offers LED strips and lighting systems that can be integrated into the Pax wardrobe.
- These lights typically have a power cord that needs to be plugged into a wall outlet.
- Power outlets are not built into the wardrobe structure, but you can use flexible power strips behind or beside the wardrobe.

Summary: If you are looking for an integrated power outlet directly inside the wardrobe, you won’t find one in the Ikea range.

Alternatively, you can hire an electrician to install a power outlet inside the wardrobe – but you should pay attention to safety and possibly consider fire protection regulations.

If you like, I can share some tips later on the best way to set up lighting.

Hi Manan57,

Some time ago, I set up a Pax wardrobe and used IKEA’s own LED light strips. They are really convenient because they are easy to install and the cables simply plug into standard outlets—unfortunately, there are no built-in sockets inside the wardrobe itself.

It might not sound very glamorous, but with cable ducts and Velcro tape, you can neatly hide the cables. And if you miss having exposed cables or sockets inside the wardrobe, you can use small adapter strips or USB hubs for additional connections. 😎

I didn’t find any fixed, built-in sockets, so you’re left with some DIY solutions or using an external power outlet. Nothing that IKEA offers directly, but definitely doable without starting a full electrical project.

Thank you for the quick and clear response! That helps me a lot.

So, I will need to plan for separate outlets.
Does IKEA offer any kind of accessory to simplify installing a power outlet inside the wardrobe, or is it really necessary to handle everything independently using third-party accessories?

I am particularly interested in solutions for integrating a power outlet discreetly and safely into the wardrobe without requiring complicated modifications.

I plan to install LED lighting inside, ideally activated by a switch or motion sensor – any tips on this would also be appreciated.

Manan57, here are some clear facts on the subject:

- Ikea Pax wardrobes come from the factory without built-in power outlets.
- Ikea sells LED lighting systems (e.g., Styrbar, Tradfri) that still require external power outlets.
- For a safe integration of power outlets inside a wardrobe, electrical installation by a qualified professional is mandatory.
- There is no tool-free or simple socket installation; any intervention in the electrical system must comply with applicable standards (for example, VDE 0100 in Germany).

Motion sensors or switches can be installed using Ikea systems or external solutions. There are numerous LED strips that can be combined with motion sensors – offering plenty of room for customization.

In short: A fully integrated power outlet inside a Pax wardrobe does not exist; DIY solutions must be executed professionally and safely.

That’s correct. I have LEDs installed in my Pax wardrobe myself and can confirm from personal experience that Ikea’s lighting systems are designed as plug-and-play solutions with separate power outlets.

If you want an outlet built directly into the wardrobe, that usually requires additional work by an electrician.

However, I recommend using motion sensors as a simple solution—for example, Ikea’s Trådfri lighting pairs well with them. This way, you avoid having to constantly look for a switch.

Also, make sure to secure the cables properly to prevent interference and avoid any risk of injury.
