Hello everyone,

I am planning to equip my Ikea Platsa cabinets with glass fronts because I want to break up the open look a bit and add more depth to the appearance. Since I couldn’t find any ready-made glass fronts for PLATSA doors at Ikea, I’m wondering: What glass front options are currently available, either officially or from third-party manufacturers, for Ikea PLATSA doors?

I’m not looking for standard kitchen fronts, but specifically options tailored to PLATSA that can be installed directly or adapted with moderate effort.

I’m interested in the different types of glass (e.g., clear, frosted, or tinted glass) as well as versions with frames or frameless. Are there systems with special glazing or unique fittings?

Maybe someone also knows good sources or practical tips for modifications, in case there isn’t an official solution.

Thanks in advance for your experiences and recommendations!

I used simple acrylic sheets as fronts, which fit perfectly on the Platsa frames.

Advantage: lighter weight, more shatter-resistant than glass, and cheaper.

Disadvantage: scratches more easily and yellows over time.

If you want safety, it's better to use tempered glass (ESG glass).

Hey, great idea! Acrylic is really a quick alternative for anyone who isn’t worried about scratches and wants to keep the weight down.

I once considered frosted glass and really liked the semi-transparency, especially if you want the cabinets to look a bit slimmer and lighter.

A tip from me: if you’re going for a DIY approach, measure carefully and have the edges finished smoothly—that saves a lot of frustration during installation.

With a bit of courage, this can turn out really cool!

Regarding framing: I hesitated for a long time about choosing frameless glass for my PLATSA doors, but it really requires a lot of experience and special fittings; it’s often expensive and stressful to install.

In terms of scratch resistance, glass generally provides a good base, but there are also coated variants.

That was a real deciding factor for me because I value long-lasting durability.

In general, I would say that people with little DIY experience are better off using prefabricated wooden frame doors with glass panels rather than installing frameless glass fronts themselves.

Don’t be afraid of DIY, but careful planning is essential; otherwise, LED lighting and dust inside the cabinet can become frustrating.
