Hello everyone, I am currently considering whether there is an easy and straightforward way to equip the IKEA BESTÅ shelving system with glass fronts.

My specific requirements are: I do not want to buy completely new doors or carry out extensive furniture modifications, but rather a solution that can be implemented with minimal DIY work.

Does anyone have experience or tips on how to fit glass fronts to the existing BESTÅ units without much cutting, screwing, or gluing? For example, are there compatible fronts from IKEA or third-party manufacturers that can be attached plug-and-play?

Looking forward to your ideas and experiences!

There are actually glass fronts from IKEA themselves that fit BESTÅ. Simply replace the existing doors with the glass fronts. It’s not much effort, just unscrew the old ones and install the new ones.

As an addition: The BESTÅ series actually offers suitable glass fronts as direct replacement options. However, you should check the measurements carefully beforehand, as some fronts are only designed for specific cabinet depths or widths.

If you turn to third-party manufacturers, I recommend paying close attention to compatibility with IKEA fittings and the drilling pattern. Otherwise, it can quickly become complicated because modifications may be required.

Even more important is whether you want clear glass, frosted glass, or tinted glass, as this can significantly affect the appearance as well as the mounting options depending on the weight.

Overall, using a compatible IKEA glass front would involve the least effort.

Thanks for the tip! Do you or anyone else maybe have an exact name or article number? I have seen that IKEA offers glass fronts, but not exactly which ones fit BESTÅ.

The reason is that there are various front types for BESTÅ, including framed ones, which makes me a bit unsure about which glass fronts are truly compatible and can be easily swapped.

So, recently I upgraded my BESTÅ with glass fronts – and yes, you don’t have to be a professional!

That’s really the most important point: only the fronts designed for BESTÅ work with the original BESTÅ hinges because the drilling pattern fits exactly. All other glass fronts require modifications and therefore more work.

I used the “Bergsbo” glass fronts from IKEA – perfectly clear, lightly tinted, and easy to handle. Just remove the original plastic door, screw the new glass front in behind the screws, and you’re done!

If you want a softer look, you can also choose frosted glass fronts. They are just as straightforward and look really good.

Conclusion: There is a simple solution with the original IKEA glass fronts, which are specifically made for BESTÅ. Check the IKEA catalog or the store under BESTÅ glass fronts for “Bergsbo.”
