Hello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble several IKEA Platsa cabinet combinations in my apartment on laminate floors. I have noticed that mounting on laminate flooring can present certain challenges, especially regarding the risk of scratches or damage to the floor during assembly and later from the weight and movement of the furniture. At the same time, it is important to me that the cabinets stand firmly and do not slip, as they are relatively tall. Therefore, my question to the community is: What is the best way to install IKEA Platsa furniture on laminate floors to both protect the floor and ensure secure and stable positioning of the furniture? Are there any specific assembly tips, floor underlays, or procedures that have proven effective? Many thanks in advance for your advice!

For assembling IKEA Platsa furniture on laminate floors, I generally recommend the following: - Use self-adhesive felt pads on the furniture feet to prevent scratches when moving. - Place a firm, level base underneath, such as a thin rubber mat or furniture pads made of felt or cork, to minimize pressure marks on the laminate. - Ensure the furniture stands level, as uneven spots can cause wobbling, which increases the risk of damage. - If possible, assemble the furniture without large lateral movements on the floor; instead, assemble it on a prepared surface and then carefully place it onto the laminate floor. This avoids unnecessary scraping and scratching. These steps are proven to provide good protection and ensure stable installation.

I would like to add a brief step-by-step guide here, as it is often the details that make all the difference: 1. Preparation: Thoroughly clean the laminate floor where the furniture will be placed to remove dust and small stones that could cause scratches. 2. Protective Pads: Before assembly, attach glides to the furniture feet. I recommend using high-quality felt pads in sufficient quantity, as cheaper ones often don’t adhere well. 3. Choosing the Assembly Location: If possible, assemble the Platsa modules on a soft surface (e.g., a furniture blanket). Avoid sliding the furniture directly on the laminate during assembly. 4. Additional Floor Protection: For particularly sensitive laminate floors, consider using base plates or felt pads under the entire piece of furniture. They help distribute the pressure better and prevent pressure marks. 5. Stability Check: After assembly, check all cabinets with a spirit level. Uneven flooring can be compensated with adjustable furniture feet if necessary. Summary: Glides + protective pads + clean surface + assembly on a soft base + spirit level and adjustable feet = optimal protection and stability.

Thanks in advance for the helpful advice! A quick question: IKEA generally supplies simple plastic feet for the Platsa system, which just snap on. Would it be beneficial to install small threaded furniture feet instead to ensure longer durability or better stability, while also preventing direct contact between the furniture and the laminate flooring? I’m concerned that the original feet might leave marks under load or don’t allow enough adjustment for leveling.

Yes, from my experience, that is definitely worthwhile. The original plastic feet are usually just push-on and don’t allow for secure leveling. With screw-in feet, you can compensate for unevenness and reduce contact with the laminate, which protects the floor and makes the furniture more stable. Make sure the screw feet have non-slip bases or combine them with felt pads.

Instead of plastic feet, many people simply screw or glue thicker felt pads underneath. This is often sufficient for protection and increased stability.
