Hello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble several IKEA Platsa cabinet combinations in my apartment on laminate floors. I have noticed that mounting on laminate flooring can present certain challenges, especially regarding the risk of scratches or damage to the floor during assembly and later from the weight and movement of the furniture. At the same time, it is important to me that the cabinets stand firmly and do not slip, as they are relatively tall. Therefore, my question to the community is: What is the best way to install IKEA Platsa furniture on laminate floors to both protect the floor and ensure secure and stable positioning of the furniture? Are there any specific assembly tips, floor underlays, or procedures that have proven effective? Many thanks in advance for your advice!

An important aspect when installing Platsa on laminate flooring is load distribution. Since the modules can be relatively tall, pressure may be concentrated on a few small points, which can cause dents or damage to the laminate. To prevent this, I recommend using small furniture pads that spread the pressure over a larger area, such as special plastic plates or thicker felt. Even better are adjustable feet, which also allow for slight leveling of uneven floors. This approach not only protects the floor but also ensures stable support.

I simply placed rubber mats under the Platsa furniture. This prevents slipping and reliably protects the laminate flooring from scratches.

Make sure the furniture is level, as uneven surfaces can cause wobbling, which increases the risk of damage.

This general advice contains a misconception: an absolutely level setup is not always necessary or even beneficial. Sometimes, rigidly fixing furniture can cause wood or laminate to become stressed, potentially leading to cracks. In my opinion, it is better to keep the furniture slightly adjustable so it can adapt to temperature changes and loads. This is certainly possible with the IKEA Platsa modules.

The goal is a stable and secure installation, especially for tall furniture with multiple units. Uneven placement increases the risk of tipping or uneven load distribution. I agree that allowing some slight movement to protect the material can be helpful, but not at the expense of safety. Therefore, I recommend using adjustable feet with some tolerance to compensate for floor irregularities without rigid fixation.

During my last Platsa assembly, I simply used double-sided adhesive pads to secure the modules to the laminate flooring. This stabilized the furniture while also protecting the floor.

This can work, but the pads should be high quality and specifically designed for delicate flooring. Otherwise, there is a risk that adhesive residue will remain or the laminate could be damaged when removing the pads. Alternatively, I recommend using furniture wedges or special non-slip rubber mats, which can be removed without leaving any residue and are gentler on the floor.
