Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the assembly of my new Ikea Pax wardrobes and would like to take this opportunity to get tips from experienced users for a quicker installation. The Pax systems, with their numerous parts and complexity, are not exactly the fastest to put together. I am especially interested in methods that help save time without compromising the quality or stability of the furniture.

Are there any tricks for preparation, the order of assembly steps, or perhaps special tools that make the installation easier? Any advice on how to avoid common mistakes and keep track of everything would also be very helpful for me.

Thanks in advance for your expertise and feedback!

That’s a great question, Fedor! I assemble PAX wardrobes quite often and have gathered some experience.

- Preparation is key: unpack your parts sorted by assembly steps and place all screws and small pieces in separate bowls so you don’t have to search for them.
- A cordless drill/driver with torque control is almost essential to avoid over-tightening screws.
- Always start with the side panels and bottom frame, then the back panel, followed by the interior fittings. This way you have a logical workflow.
- Take your time to align everything and regularly check with a spirit level, especially important for tall cabinets.

And don’t forget: stay calm and follow the instructions step by step. With some experience, you can save time since many tasks become almost automatic.

I agree with that and would like to add that it’s helpful to check all small parts before starting assembly and organize them in labeled small containers – this prevents searching for parts during the process.

Furthermore, reading through the entire instruction manual beforehand can help you understand the workflow. This way, you avoid constantly flipping back and forth.

If you are assembling multiple PAX wardrobes, it’s more efficient to prepare and complete each step on both wardrobes in parallel (e.g., assemble both side panels first, then both shelves, etc.). This saves time because you stay mentally focused on the same task.

Additionally, small aids like corner clamps or bar clamps can help hold parts in place during screwing. This makes the work cleaner and easier—especially if you’re working alone.

I would also like to share some practical advice, especially regarding motivation during assembly.

I just completed my first PAX assembly, and at the beginning, I felt quite overwhelmed by all the small screws and numerous steps. What helped me was establishing a simple routine: I completed each step, then paused briefly to review the result before moving on to the next. This helped me avoid mistakes that would have cost more time later.

Also: if possible, have someone assist you. Assembly is much more relaxed and usually faster when you can hold parts together or when one person holds the screws while the other tightens them.

This might sound obvious, but I realized that rushing often leads to mistakes which can end up taking even more time. So it’s better to start calmly and avoid errors from the beginning.

I would like to add some practical tips regarding the order of assembly and how to avoid common mistakes when installing PAX systems:

- Start by thoroughly checking all parts for any transport damage. Defective components can unnecessarily delay the assembly process.
- Always work on a clean, flat surface. An uneven floor can make proper alignment difficult.
- Attach the side panels first along with the bottom and top frames to create a stable carcass before carefully sliding in the back panel.
- When installing the doors, make sure the hinges are securely fastened but not overtightened, as this can affect their functionality.
- Use markings or small notes to prevent common mix-ups between similar parts.

Using this systematic approach will not only save you time but also ensure the quality of the assembly.
