My goal is to proactively obtain spare parts before any issues occur, to keep daily use as smooth as possible. The most important components are the drawer slides, as they have to withstand the greatest amount of stress. Additionally, replacement handles should be kept on hand in case a screw breaks.

The Hemnes series uses relatively simple metal and wood joints. From a technical perspective, it is advisable to keep the following spare parts on hand:
- Drawer guides (metal or plastic rails)
- Original handles (especially for older models with wooden handles)
- Screws and angle brackets (wooden dowels are often used in Hemnes)
- Plastic stoppers or dampers in the drawers

The main reasons for repair are usually wear on the guides or minor breaks in the fastenings. IKEA has offered spare parts for these for years, which can be easily reordered.

That is correct. From my experience, I can add that the back panel fastenings on Hemnes dressers are often somewhat fragile. Replacing these small metal clips or upgrading to stronger versions can be worthwhile at times.
You should also watch out for damage to the drawer sides, as they are made of solid pine and can develop cracks if subjected to improper stress.

In addition to the mentioned parts, I recommend checking the quality of the drawer stoppers. In some Hemnes models, these are made of inexpensive plastic that can become brittle over time. Replacing them is advisable to ensure the drawers close securely. Likewise, glides or small felt strips on the underside of the drawers can wear out and are simple replacement parts to maintain smooth operation.
