furonin488 Oct 2021 09:17Hello everyone, I am planning to furnish my small kitchen with Ikea Metod cabinets and want to find the best solutions for very limited space. Specifically, I am interested in which Metod cabinet models work well for small kitchens in apartments with little floor space, without compromising storage capacity or severely restricting movement. It would be helpful if someone could share their experiences or recommendations regarding cabinet types, dimensions, or special configurations that are suitable for narrow kitchen layouts or corners. Tips on practical interior fittings or modular solutions for optimal space utilization would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Corner solutions with a revolving carousel or drawer cabinets are especially space-saving. If space is very limited, a 20 cm (7.9 inch) wall cabinet can provide additional storage.
For additional information: The Ikea Metod series offers modular heights of 60, 80, and 100 cm (24, 31, and 39 inches) for base cabinets. For small kitchens, the 60 cm (24 inches) high cabinets with a depth of 40 cm (16 inches) are especially suitable because they reduce the standard depth (60 cm / 24 inches). Narrow cabinets with widths of 20 or 30 cm (8 or 12 inches) are ideal for tight spaces, as they complement larger units. Corner cabinets with a carousel organizer maximize the otherwise hard-to-access corners. Additionally, integrating drawers with organizing inserts can make more efficient use of storage space. Wall cabinets with shallower depths also work well to keep the room feeling open and to store items neatly.

Corner cabinets often make a big difference in small kitchens because otherwise, a lot of space goes unused there. And the 40cm (16 inches) deep base cabinets are not only practical but also make the kitchen feel more spacious.
Additionally, using open shelves or wall cabinets can help to break up the space and create a more dynamic look. A small kitchen doesn’t have to be a nightmare when you work with the right Metod cabinet combinations.

Aside from the base cabinets, I recommend using pull-outs instead of doors – this improves visibility and makes handling easier in small kitchens. Especially multi-drawers or narrow pull-out pantry units (20-30 cm (8-12 inches)) allow for space-saving storage of spices, oils, or baking supplies.
An important factor in small kitchens is also considering the ceiling height. Ikea Metod cabinets can be stacked up to the ceiling or extended with cabinet height extenders, which creates additional storage space while maintaining a tidy appearance. If corner solutions are planned, it is essential to measure carefully before purchasing, as the internal carousels can sometimes be quite bulky.
