Hello everyone, I am looking for innovative ways to optimize storage space usage in IKEA Metod base cabinets. My goal is not only to use the available space efficiently but also to improve access to stored items and enhance organization. The interior fittings of the cabinets with standard shelves and drawers often seem underutilized to me. Do you have any ideas, such as clever inserts, special organizers, or even DIY solutions that integrate well into Metod base cabinets? I would also appreciate tips for less frequently used areas, like internal pull-outs, narrow compartments, or the doors!

Hello Lauju, your question is very well formulated and practical! For Metod base cabinets, using adjustable inserts is especially recommended, which can usually be added alongside the standard shelves. For example, many have had positive experiences with wire baskets, as they provide clear visibility of the contents and often offer more storage volume than flat shelves, particularly for pots or storage jars.

It is also worth investing in pull-out inner drawers that fit inside the compartments. This way, you make the most of the deep cabinet space and can easily access the rear area. Many underestimate the use of the inside of the doors: small magnetic holders or hooks can be used there to store tools, paper towel rolls, or pot holders without losing space in the main compartment.

I would like to add that the individual dimensions of the Metod cabinets are crucial when choosing storage solutions. For narrower cabinets, for example 40 cm (16 inches) wide, it is worthwhile to use modular organizing boxes that can be arranged both horizontally and vertically. This way, the depth can be effectively divided into smaller compartments.

Additionally, shallow inserts that are installed between the bottom and the drawer have proven effective. This creates extra storage levels that are rarely used. In general, I recommend measuring the actual interior dimensions before purchasing, as the internal measurements often differ from the nominal sizes, which is very important for planning.

Great topic! 🙂 For me personally, the use of removable dividers inside drawers was a real game changer! They can be positioned individually, allowing you to optimize storage space in small compartments.

In addition, I installed a second level with an extra drawer in one of my Metod cabinets, which I reinforced with wooden slats as a frame. This basically doubles the usable surface and greatly improves organization. To be honest, sorting is also much more enjoyable when everything has its dedicated place!

Not to forget: organizational systems made of transparent plastic help keep the contents clearly visible at the same time. This saves both time and frustration.

Lauju, my recommendation: Use a roll-out system for heavy pots. These are easy to install and greatly improve accessibility.

Also, storage space under the countertop should be supplemented with shelves at different heights – this way you make effective use of the vertical storage space.

I understand how challenging it can be to keep track of everything inside Metod cabinets. I felt the same way until I started adding flexible containers for the interior fittings. This not only increased the storage capacity but also made it easier to see where everything is – which really helps during busy cooking times to avoid losing track.

Another thing I tried was using lightweight, self-adhesive hooks on the inside of the doors for smaller kitchen utensils. This way, everything is within easy reach without reducing the storage space inside the cabinet body.

It might sound simple, but sometimes these small improvements make all the difference.
