Florentmin24 Jun 2022 09:37Hello everyone,
I am facing the challenge of installing an Ikea PAX wardrobe system in my apartment on a rather uneven wooden floor. It is important to me that I do not damage either the furniture or the floor during installation. The floor has some filled dents and small irregular spots that will likely become noticeable during assembly.
My question is: How can I install the Ikea PAX on uneven floors to
- avoid damage to the floor,
- keep the furniture stable and level,
- and ensure long-term load capacity?
I have already considered possible underlays or special feet but am uncertain which methods are technically sensible and practical. I would greatly appreciate tips, experience, and advice. Strategies that Ikea itself doesn’t necessarily recommend would be especially interesting.
Thank you in advance!

Hey Florentmin,
“Particularly interesting would be strategies that IKEA itself doesn’t necessarily suggest.”
That almost sounds like a Mission Impossible, but don’t worry, we can handle it! 😄
I once assembled a PAX wardrobe on a slightly uneven laminate floor myself. My tip: place small wooden boards or thick felt pads under the feet. You can find these at any hardware store, and they help smooth out minor unevenness. It’s important that all the feet are exactly at the same height; otherwise, the cabinet will wobble later like an old grandpa dancing.
If you want it really stable, you can also use rubber floor pads that prevent slipping and provide good grip. That way, nothing warps and the floor is protected.
Good luck with your wood mission!

Hello Florentmin,
to address the topic "assembling Ikea PAX on uneven floors without damage" in more detail, I would first like to point out that floor unevenness can have a significant impact on the stability of a large piece of furniture.
My recommendation is to level the PAX feet individually using a spirit level. If the original feet are not adjustable, you can replace them with height-adjustable furniture or shelf feet. These are relatively affordable and allow precise adaptation to the floor.
In addition, thin rubber mats or anti-slip pads are useful to prevent scratches on the floor and provide slight cushioning to avoid noise when moving the furniture.
Another important tip: avoid direct load on the corners of the cabinet base, as these areas often experience the greatest stress. If the PAX consists of multiple units, it is worth connecting the modules to each other to distribute the load evenly.
I hope this helps you!

baAlejandr24 Jun 2022 17:23Regarding the installation of Ikea PAX on uneven floors, I would like to add:
- Generally, PAX units are not designed for extremely uneven surfaces, so leveling is important.
- A practical solution is adjustable furniture feet, which can compensate for height differences.
- For dents in wooden floors, it is advisable to place a thin but sturdy underlay (e.g., plywood sheet) beneath the entire wardrobe area to avoid pressure points on the floor.
- Using self-adhesive felt pads protects the floor from scratches and can also tolerate slight movements.
It is important to always level and adjust the wardrobe after assembly to prevent stress and possible warping.

Also good: secure PAX to the floor if possible. Is that advisable on uneven floors at all? Or does it increase the risk of stress on certain points?
