Hello everyone,

I am planning to build an IKEA Besta chest of drawers myself, but I want to integrate soft-close drawers because quiet operation is very important to me. My specific question is: How do I assemble a Besta chest of drawers with soft-close drawers so that the soft-close function works reliably and the drawers run smoothly? Are there special drawer slides or installation tips I should be aware of? I have seen some designs online where the standard drawer slides are replaced. How exactly does this work with the Besta system? Additionally, I am interested in whether there are special installation steps or possible modifications I need to make to ensure everything closes properly and the soft-close mechanism remains durable over time. Thanks in advance for your advice!

The best solution is to retrofit the drawers with special soft-close aluminum profiles that serve as guides and are compatible with the BESTA series. IKEA itself does not offer soft-close slides for BESTA, so it is recommended to use third-party components. Important points are:

- precise measurement of the drawer dimensions
- installation of the guide rails parallel and level
- accurate fastening to the side panels and base

During installation, pay close attention to the load capacity, as some cheaper models may loosen over frequent use. It is also advisable to sand the drawers before final assembly if adjustments are necessary.

Exactly, Tarmau is right! IKEA’s BESTA series has great standard drawers, but for soft-close you need a bit more attention to detail – or the right aftermarket accessories. 😎

I installed Blum TANDEM slides myself, which are very smooth and quiet. The advantage: they are durable, and installation is easier than you might think.

What helped me:
- Always test the slides before installation,
- ensure an even spacing when fastening,
- and if the drawers stick slightly, it’s better to loosen everything and realign.

The result: a dresser that closes like magic! ✨

Hello OLESLI,

I just wanted to say: Get those screws in and don’t be discouraged! 😊

I upgraded my BESTA dresser with soft-close drawers by replacing the original runners with high-quality Blum versions. They run really smoothly, and the installation wasn’t as complicated as I expected.

My tip:
- Take your time to carefully align all parts.
- If you have a spirit level, use it when installing the drawer slides.
- It takes a bit longer the first time, but it’s definitely worth it!

If you have any questions, just ask—I’m happy to help!

I’m adding a brief step-by-step guide for installing soft-close drawer slides in the BESTA chest of drawers:

1. Remove the original drawer slides: Fully pull out the drawers, unscrew all fasteners, and take off the existing slides.

2. Measurement: Measure the height and depth of the drawers to ensure the new slides will fit.

3. Selecting suitable soft-close slides: Blum TANDEM or comparable brands are recommended.

4. Positioning: Mount the new slides parallel to the side walls – carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding mounting height.

5. Adjustment: Insert the drawers and check their movement. Adjust the slide positions if the drawers stick or don’t close properly.

6. Final assembly: Secure all screws tightly and test the soft-close function again.

Common mistakes:
- Slides not mounted parallel
- Screws too loose or too tight
- Measurements not checked before purchasing slides

If all steps are followed correctly, the chest will quickly run smoothly and quietly!

Exactly that. Additionally, make sure that the screw holes of the new guides do not align with those of the old ones. Otherwise, everything will be misaligned.
