Hello everyone,

I am planning to build an IKEA Besta chest of drawers myself, but I want to integrate soft-close drawers because quiet operation is very important to me. My specific question is: How do I assemble a Besta chest of drawers with soft-close drawers so that the soft-close function works reliably and the drawers run smoothly? Are there special drawer slides or installation tips I should be aware of? I have seen some designs online where the standard drawer slides are replaced. How exactly does this work with the Besta system? Additionally, I am interested in whether there are special installation steps or possible modifications I need to make to ensure everything closes properly and the soft-close mechanism remains durable over time. Thanks in advance for your advice!

My tip:

If you don’t have a dedicated drill or special tools, buy guides with integrated mounting aids. They make marking and aligning much easier.

Also: Sometimes glued dampers are recommended. They work but are not as durable as proper soft-close rails.

I prefer clear technical solutions over simple “retrofit stickers.”
