Hello everyone, I recently purchased some IKEA Besta furniture for my living room and am now facing the challenge of managing all the cables. The cabinets are quite compact and don’t have many openings for cable routing, but I don’t want a visible mess of cables in front of or behind the furniture. Are there any proven tips or smart solutions for neatly routing cables inside or behind IKEA Besta units? I’m especially interested in techniques or accessories that might help, as well as general recommendations for cable management to keep everything tidy and accessible. Thanks!

Hey Emildo, great question! Bestas are indeed great, but cable management can be a bit of a challenge. What worked really well for me are cable channels mounted on the back of the furniture – they keep everything secure and looking tidy. I also use cable ties and Velcro straps to bundle cables and avoid unnecessary clutter. And: Try pulling cables through the holes in the back panel, you’ll often find more fits through than you expect 😉.

Install cable clips on the inside instead of the outside. Enlarge the back panel using a drill to allow for more cable management. Bundle cables with spiral tubing for better organization.

To optimize cable management with IKEA BESTA furniture, I recommend the following measures:
- Use self-adhesive cable channels on the back to bundle cables
- Drill additional cable openings in the back panel for targeted routing
- Use Velcro straps or spiral sleeves for flexibility and accessibility
- Employ cable grommets to protect edges and guide cables neatly

Besides proper cable routing, pay attention to the connection points so that frequently used device cables remain easily accessible. These organizational details help reduce frustration when unplugging or rearranging later.

Hello Emildo, I’m happy to address your question and add some information: Basically, it makes sense to roughly plan the wiring layout before installing the electronics. Cabinets often already have pre-drilled holes in the back panel, which can be fitted with appropriate grommets if needed. Special rubber grommets are useful to protect the cables from abrasion. Additionally, the interior compartments can be equipped with cable clips to allow for organized cable routing. For specific cable lengths, I recommend choosing longer ones to provide some extra slack for possible future modifications. In conclusion: use flexible cable management systems whenever possible, as cabinets or devices may be rearranged or modified over time.

Another important aspect is ventilation when managing cables in IKEA BESTA. If you bundle many cables in one compartment, you should ensure that air circulation is not too restricted, especially if amplifiers or gaming consoles are installed there. Perforated back panels or installing ventilation grilles can help with this. Cable tie wraps with hook and loop fasteners are also ideal, as they offer reusability and adjustability.
