Good evening everyone
I’m starting a small collection thread here for photos and progress updates on our second building project.
We’ve already moved to the Palatinate region to be closer to the construction site. Now we’re watching eagerly and happily as our (hopefully final) dream home takes shape near family.
One big challenge still ahead of us is the facade design. I really love the Nordic style with brickwork and mullioned windows. That won’t be possible here for two reasons: firstly, no one here can do bricklaying, and secondly, it would stand out too much. We will be going with a rendered facade. How to design the colors of the facade and windows to still create some country house / cottage charm is currently still a work in progress mentally.
Otherwise, I’m sharing our plans here and how it will eventually be built.
The support pillar marked near the kitchen island could be removed for a small extra cost, so that will be gone.
The room for “garden equipment” under the garage will get a partition wall for structural reasons.
It won’t be fully finished living space like in the house, but underfloor heating will be installed, along with a lockable door and a window. It’s meant to store garden tools but also some of the building services equipment, since the utility room (HAR) is quite small, and maybe be used as a party room.
We had three construction companies in the final selection. In the end, we chose the “doer” – a builder recommended to us here by friends and family. No website, no smartphone, but he is on site every day himself working in overalls. He has a very good reputation in this area and now rarely builds single-family homes. We were a bit lucky through personal connections and a very friendly initial phone call to get our foot in the door. So far we are very satisfied with this choice.

Would you prefer something neutral/bright, or daring with color? Daring with color. There are already plenty of boring white houses with black roofs and anthracite-toned concrete paving.

We slowly need to decide on a plaster color. I have no idea yet.
What would you lean towards: something neutral/light, or a bold color? House in lilac, carport in saffron. Or banana/cherry.

The garden tools room wasn’t originally designed as a living space. It has become part of the building’s thermal envelope, with walls and doorways added, and is now used as a heating room (since the utility room was quite small), storage within the heating room, garden tools and mudroom, and a narrow but 7-meter-long (23-foot) “little room” that serves as a home gym for my husband and me.
Where it currently says "fitness," we will place our video game collection, as well as a backup desk for when working from home gets a bit overwhelming. =)
The TV wall is not very important to us; we watch TV only occasionally, mostly in the evenings. Also, this is not the south-facing side of the house, and we have a roller shutter installed.
I will give some thought to the color suggestions—at least some of them. 😉
What do you think about a pale reed green?
Our kitchen was almost painted that green, but we eventually decided to go with white.

Dare to use color. There are already enough boring white houses with black roofs and anthracite-toned concrete paving.Funny enough, all the houses on the opposite side of the street are exactly that—white with black roofs. =)
A neighbor recently said she really likes our windows and would love to have ones like them. That was reassuring; at least someone still likes the muntins. =)
I also think it won’t be traffic white after all.

I also think it probably won’t be traffic white. I find light beige or yellow to be the most attractive for houses.
Please be careful with green, blue, or red tones, as they can quickly become too intense...
