Hello
we are currently building our new house.
We had the first appointment with the electrician, and for the smart home system, he recommended Free@home.
The electrician does not offer KNX.
What would you recommend? Should we go with Free@home or install a wireless smart home system ourselves later?

@DaGoodness you understood me regarding the switches and access points.
Should I do it like this or just connect the access points and switches in the rooms to power? That’s something you have to decide; both options will work. But this is exactly what I mean.
You’re asking questions here that normally get different answers because there are various ways to do it, all of which work. In the end, you need to know what you want. :p

Do the LAN ports on the PoE switch always consume power even when they aren’t in use? No.R

No.Usually not the ports, but the larger switch most likely is. Larger motherboards, processors, power supplies, etc., so I would rather say yes. ;-)D

You have to differentiate, of course. Every power supply consumes electricity. Small switches each use about 15 watts. A larger one uses around 20 watts. Yes, the large one runs 24/7, while the smaller ones do not, but the smaller ones also need to be made switchable.
You always have to balance and calculate what works better.

It currently uses 7 watts with only a few active ports.... and when you calculate that over a year, it adds up to about 60 kWh.Similar topics
