Hello everyone,
I have what might seem like a basic question. We’ve received the first quote from the electrician and are somewhat surprised by the additional costs being charged.

Initially, we planned to have a duplex LAN outlet in almost every room. My assumption was that it wouldn’t be significantly more expensive than a simplex outlet. But that turned out to be incorrect... So now we’re trying to reduce the costs a bit.

My question is: Does it make a difference in performance if I use a duplex LAN outlet simultaneously, or a simplex outlet connected to a small gigabit switch, for example from TP Link?
We plan to install CAT 7 cabling and currently expect an internet connection speed of around 150 Mbit/s.
It obviously doesn’t look as neat, but it will always be hidden behind the desk or TV anyway.

Thanks for your help.

No, it doesn’t make a difference as long as there is actually a gigabit connection available at the outlet.
What additional costs per outlet does he charge?

Simplex about 120-170 euros. Duplex 250-350 euros per socket... quite bold, in my opinion.

Well, the issue is mainly with the price of a LAN socket. Duplex simply means everything is doubled: 2 cables instead of 1, 2 connections terminated instead of 1. So, the doubling of the price is quite obvious.

Before you run 10 switches (which can sometimes cause problems and especially leads to high operating costs), it’s better to ask if they can just install the cables and you handle the termination yourself. A significant amount of labor time is included in the price.

That is really excessive.
I would seriously consider installing the cables myself, if possible.

Or: have a duplex cable installed and connect one of the cables to the simplex outlet. Then you can always convert it to duplex later if needed. The main thing is that the cable is already prepared inside the wall.

Good luck
