Hello everyone,
I hope this is the right subforum... if not, please feel free to move it...
It’s about the staircase shown in the picture (a standard prefabricated house staircase), which I don’t like at all, but it was already installed. Do you have any ideas on what could replace these balusters/railings to improve the overall look?
I was considering glass panels, but from a finger safety perspective with a toddler, it’s a bit tricky...
I’d really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you very much.

I think the staircase is pretty good for a standard staircase. At Heinz von Heiden, it’s not included as standard and costs several thousand extra... :pP
pagoni202031 Jan 2022 21:28I don’t find the staircase that bad; I’ve seen worse. In white, it doesn’t look as bulky, and the steps could be painted in different colors. In the end, the surrounding room makes a big difference. Of course, you can have stylish staircases custom built, but then you’re quickly looking at $12,000 to $20,000. However, that gives you a lot of options.
Our staircase is in the middle of the room, so we spent money on it. This staircase is basically enclosed in a box, which would bother me less. Just wait a while........

If you have limited space, I would consider closing off the steps and installing a cabinet, drawers in the lower steps, or something similar to gain additional storage.
The rest will be challenging. For any modifications that need to be done afterwards, you have to consider how much will need to be dismantled, even damaged, and then repaired.
Maybe move in first and see how much it bothers you after 2-3 months and a period of settling in.

If you have limited space, I would consider closing the risers and installing a cupboard or drawers under the lower steps to gain extra storage. The rest will be challenging. For anything that needs to be done afterward, the question is how much demolition or rebuilding will be required to fix it.
Maybe move in first and see how much it bothers you after 2-3 months once you’ve settled in.Yep, closing the risers plus adding a built-in storage underneath is definitely one of the top options. Yes, you’re right. The most stylish renovations are (for us) not affordable and don’t justify the cost.

We have EXACTLY this staircase. The hallway in the photo is just not ours. I don’t have a photo at the moment.Maybe like this if it’s supposed to be glass… Similar topics
