Hello everyone,
I hope this is the right subforum... if not, please feel free to move it...
It’s about the staircase shown in the picture (a standard prefabricated house staircase), which I don’t like at all, but it was already installed. Do you have any ideas on what could replace these balusters/railings to improve the overall look?
I was considering glass panels, but from a finger safety perspective with a toddler, it’s a bit tricky...
I’d really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you very much.

Isn't that the "Sella" model from Heinz von Heiden in beech wood?

I would replace the metal supports with wooden beams. That looks less cold and more attractive to me. Personally, I don’t like open stair treads either. If I had enough money, I would also close them off. Otherwise, a staircase just fades into the background. You get used to it.

I’m afraid that making changes could quickly become quite expensive. You might consider using metal rods, steel cables, perforated metal sheets, or simply working with paint.

For example, the background of the niche could be painted entirely in a bold color, which would change the look of the entire staircase. Maybe wax the handrail gray... even the steps could be painted in different colors.

Alternatively, if it really bothers you a lot, then you could remove it.

However, keep in mind that it’s just a staircase, and it needs to serve its function. I would suggest waiting a bit first to see if your feeling about it changes or settles over time.

With a toddler, I wouldn't make any changes at all. I would only consider doing something once the "I throw my toys down the stairs" phase is over.

Thank you all for the creative suggestions. Yes, it is the Sella model. You probably get used to the appearance, and of course, money is a factor—especially with the current real estate prices. We’ll see what can be done. Have a great day!
