Hello everyone,

Is there anyone who would advise against an open-plan kitchen? Especially homeowners who previously had a closed kitchen and now regret having an open kitchen after building a new house? Or do the positive experiences clearly outweigh the negatives?

Thank you!

Common? If that’s really how it is, then rather disgusting…
On Monday, I made my first truly homemade moussaka (I love Greek food).
The kitchen was a disaster afterward. Admittedly, the recipe was good but
the process was a mess.
Still, we’re doing well. We live well. Very well.
A hired cook would never be within our budget. But even if it were.
What kind of nonsense is that?
I enjoy cooking. Cooking myself. Cooking properly. If it didn’t turn out well, I try to do better next time.
And I like being able to do it while my family is around.
The smell in the house of rosemary, lamb cooking in fat, onions, garlic, roux, potatoes, etc., lingers for a while.
But it’s a good smell.
Better than any “air freshener.”

Don't feed the troll 😎 (plus a few characters)

What do you think? Have we forgotten anything important? My mind says option 1, my heart says option 2 🙂
Follow your heart; reason is overrated. The decision seems clear to me.
Since partner choice has already been mentioned in this thread: I don’t know anyone who is deeply satisfied with their partner that they chose solely with their mind.

Yesterday, I entered the house and was greeted by the aroma of a good pizzeria...

The typical wood-fired oven smell, with fresh ingredients like basil and more...

These scents can have a positive effect on people; life is just too short :-)

Pizza with arugula and basil, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and meat on a plate.

That's how it should be.
I have never really understood the argument about odors...

And we don’t have any grease deposits on the living room furniture either, even though our kitchen is very prominently open to the living room and is located on the interior side of the building, meaning it has no window.

Well, if the heart has no experience with building houses, then the brain should take a critical look at the project before you sink half a million. 😀

Deciding in detail whether a kitchen is open or closed isn’t going to waste anyone’s money when building a house. Money only truly matters if it’s not enough to live on. Everything beyond that is a means of design. It’s better to use the freedom of design than to idolize money and trap yourself in mental limitations built on fears and safeguards. Looking back at the midpoint of my life, the paths my heart chose or didn’t choose move me far more than any lost money. Money always came back one way or another, unlike a missed path of the heart.
