Good evening everyone,
Our kitchen will have a pantry of about 6 sqm (65 sq ft) adjacent to it. For aesthetic reasons, we are considering integrating a hidden passage into the kitchen in the form of a tall cabinet door.
This would be feasible with a 70 cm (28 inch) wide door from the manufacturer LEICHT.
We are wondering how practical these types of passages are for daily use and would appreciate hearing your opinions and experiences. The kitchen is initially planned to be handleless.
Alternatively, a sliding door recessed into the wall or a standard door would also be an option.
Thank you!

I also considered having a passageway toward the cloakroom... ultimately, it depends on the storage needs 😉 ... in Yvonne’s solution, however, I would have the pantry door open outwards.
What I could imagine in a more enclosed version would be a type of "dog flap" between the cloakroom and the pantry, for example, to slide beverage crates back and forth... basically opposite the pantry/kitchen door. There could be an opening inside the cloakroom cabinet and the pantry side could be completely open. Then, the cabinets on the left side in the pantry could be extended to 150 cm (59 inches), for example, to accommodate a large freezer or something similar.

@ypg Thank you very much for your effort in redesigning ☺️
That would definitely be an option I will take a closer look at.
We originally wanted a large island facing the living room area. However, I think that might no longer be possible with the tall cabinets on the sides. I will consult the kitchen planner about this.

@ypg Thanks so much to you as well for taking the time to revise the plan. You’re welcome! Chloe83 schrieb:
We definitely wanted a large island at the front, towards the living room. But I think that might not be possible with the tall cabinets on the sides. I’ll ask the kitchen planner about that. There is some island space there though. In your original design, it feels like about half of your kitchen is just a passageway with little integration. It ends up being good only for pinboards and pictures. You essentially lose a whole wall length — it stays unused. I can also imagine that with a full layout discussion, more ideas could emerge, possibly giving you a wider kitchen and therefore more options.
