Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!

That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...

Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...

The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.

After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.

The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

At least the main kitchen is finished. Purchased from Plana (...), but from my own research, it’s a Pronorm kitchen. Matte white lacquer fronts, ceramic countertop, Bosch appliances.

Only the tile backsplash (Cifre Ceramica opal marine), the new refrigerator, and of course the lighting are still missing.
Can you fully open the window above the sink?

At 80% - so it is sufficient

Nice kitchen! It’s a bit unfortunate that the cooktop was planned right in the middle, so you have to squeeze to the side when working. Still very nice, in my opinion. 🙂

We think it works quite well. Having some counter space on both sides is important – the area for the extractor hood could only be adjusted to a limited extent (by the developer). That’s why we’re also happy about the peninsula. It offers plenty of options and the kids can help out – which was very important to them 😀

Here is a brief report with some pictures of our kitchen. It is a LEICHT Contino with a Dekton countertop. Appliances are from Bosch, Miele, Bora, Blanco, and Villeroy & Boch.

We have been living in our house for over a year now and use the kitchen daily. I think this experience allows for a well-founded review.

The kitchen played a central role in our house planning. We wanted it to be the focal point in the open living area. In hindsight, the kitchen island was the right decision, although we do miss having a small sink. A much larger kitchen would certainly have been a better choice.

Now, on to the kitchen review.

[Furniture]
Drawers
  • The drawers are basically sturdy. However, some do not slide smoothly and cause unpleasant noise when opened or closed.
Fronts
  • The Tocco front is truly great. It is very durable and especially easy to clean without leaving any residue.
  • The Ikono front is also good. Because it has a slightly textured surface, cleaning is not quite as easy as with the Tocco.
[Sink and Faucet]
  • We chose a simple but very large stainless steel sink from Blanco.
  • The size is perfect.
  • Even though stainless steel scratches easily and rarely remains spotless, it cleans well.
  • The faucet from Villeroy & Boch is excellent—especially the spray function, which we really appreciate.

[Appliances]
Bora Basic BFIA
  • The induction cooktop performs well, with little to complain about.
  • The extractor works amazingly. We never expected the downdraft extractor to perform so effectively without compromise.
  • The controls are a disaster. The round slider is only roughly adjustable, so incorrect settings happen often. This wouldn’t be so bad if there were a “back” button, but there isn’t. You have to wait for the control system to reset, which is extremely annoying and prevents quick adjustments of heat and extraction. In our opinion, the user interface is not well thought-out.
Miele K 37683 iDF
  • We are satisfied with the refrigerator. The 0° zones keep meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables fresh for a long time. The rest is rather unremarkable 🙂
Bosch HNG6764B6
  • The oven unfortunately developed a defect within the first year. Bosch service was really great, and eventually, our unit was replaced. We were just unlucky.
  • We love the oven. The integrated microwave is very practical for us.
  • The automatic programs yield excellent results. Highly recommended.
Bosch SBV68TX06E
  • The XXL dishwasher offers a lot of space due to its height.
  • The cutlery drawer is very practical for us.
  • Cleaning results are not always satisfactory.
  • It sometimes happens that dishes are still wet after the wash cycle.

[Countertop]
We wanted no compromises with the countertop, so we chose 12mm (½ inch) Dekton.
  • Sink and cooktop are flush-mounted.
  • The material is really enjoyable. We place hot pots and casserole dishes directly from the oven onto the surface.
  • Cleaning is very easy.
  • The appearance is impressive.

May I ask how much this gem cost? 😎

And what do you mean by the 4-tier drawer system? I'm not quite sure what that means.

Thanks

Thanks

The base cabinets have 6 units. The top two drawers are each 1 unit, and the bottom drawer is 4 units. One unit is about 14cm (5.5 inches).

The kitchen cost 30k.
