Hello everyone,
a quick question for those of you who have already completed building your house. Was there a moment when you thought, "Oh no, what did we actually choose here? This doesn’t look at all like we imagined it would?"
We are currently having some doubts about the tiles in the hallway. Maybe that will change after the painter has finished and the furniture, especially the staircase, is in place.
How was it for you?
Best regards
Herr Stein

You installed the floor before painting? If you have a choice, isn’t it usually done the other way around?
Otherwise, yes, my apartment also had tiles. At the time, I chose what I thought was a modern anthracite-colored floor tile that doesn’t show dust easily but does show cement residue and lime deposits. Especially in the walk-in shower, that was a big mistake. You can’t clean the mineral deposits from the water here often enough in Berlin before they turn light gray/brown/red/yellow.
The question is, which color would better hide this?

Due to the water quality in Berlin and recommendations from friends, we plan to install a water softening system after the final building inspection. We have already decided against two elements that are prone to damage from hard water: instead of fully tiled shower floors, we chose Corian as the base surface, and instead of a long floor drain with a metal grate, we opted for a centrally located drain with a Corian-style plug.
Oh yes, tiles... a special topic. I worked my way through the selection from the least important room (utility room) to the guest toilet and finally to the main bathroom.
The utility room features a gray floor tile and a tile backsplash behind the utility sink made from the same tile. It didn’t look too dark at first, and the floor works great... but on the wall, it probably could have been a lighter shade (and there was one available). However, since I don’t spend much time in that room, I’m relaxed about it.
The guest toilet turned out just right. And the main bathroom has a wow effect, even though I couldn’t really estimate how the combination of the floor tile (wood-concrete look), the “scraped” wall tile (Mom tried to remove the decor because she thought it was dirt...), and the border made from the floor tile would work together. Now it looks really good. I have to say, luckily it all came together in the end...

Due to the Berlin water and experiences shared by friends, we are choosing Corian as the substrate. Sounds interesting, how expensive is that? Your solution and approximately per m² (per square foot)

Now it looks really great. That makes me curious, is there already a photo of it in the forum?
