Our newly installed refrigerator is humming. Is this still normal nowadays, or am I too sensitive? Our kitchen is part of a large open-plan space that includes the dining and living areas. I can even hear the refrigerator when I’m in the living area. What can I do? Could it be because of the large open space? My 25-year-old refrigerator in the old apartment didn’t make any noise.

Could it be the cable? Ours was extremely loud as well. I removed the cover and moved the cable around... now it’s fine. You can still hear it when it starts cooling though. Thanks, I’ll try that. I hope I can reach it. I’ve even had to turn it off because it bothered me so much.
Finally, someone who understands me... the new refrigerators really annoy me too. Both the new one in my rental apartment (Siemens) and the current one (Samsung French Door) make strange noises. My old AEG never did that. They’re not loud, but they constantly make odd bubbling or humming sounds... annoying...
But I guess that’s just how it is.
Overall, I’m not very comfortable with all these A++ rated appliances. The induction cooktop makes strange noises, and the Miele dishwasher is about 100 times louder than the Bosch one in the rental apartment, which was half the price.
You get used to it a little bit...

What does "built-in" mean? Permanently installed, could it be acting as a resonance chamber here?
Is air circulation possible? If not, the compressors might be running at too high a capacity.
But: I can hear mine too, and the unit is less than 12 months old... However, I wouldn’t say it’s disturbingly loud.

Miele dishwasher also 100 times noisier than the Bosch, which costs half as much and was in the rental apartment...Ahh, don’t scare me! We haven’t even run the dishwasher yet. I will test it as soon as possible!

I will check the air ventilation. Thanks. I always thought the newer the model, the better the technology and therefore the quieter.
We only hear our LG side-by-side refrigerator when it’s running the power cooling mode.
And no, a new one doesn’t have to be louder. The (Miele) dishwasher, however, is rather on the loud side, although “loud” is relative—it’s quieter than the previous Bosch, but you can still hear it, so I wouldn’t want that in the living room.
On the other hand, the new washing machine (Miele) is almost silent!
Same with mine – but that’s because one of the fans is wobbling. So opening it up and replacing the fan would definitely be better for the PC.

If it were freestanding, I would suggest just tapping it from the side once. That works wonders on my PC at work.
