Hello everyone,

Here is my situation (see photo): the pipe I want to connect my washing machine to has an inner diameter of just under 60mm (about 2.4 inches) and goes in about 2cm (0.8 inches) until a lip. I have found various HT pipes, but they all correspond to DN58, which is 58mm (2.3 inches). Would one of these fit securely, or is the 2cm (0.8 inches) lip too short? Furthermore, there is a slight draft coming from the pipe that has a very unpleasant smell, so I definitely want to use a surface-mounted trap, but this is only available in DN40.

Is there anyone here who can advise me on which pipes and adapters would fit to go from this DN58 pipe down to DN40? It is important to me that no odors can get into the hose.

Thanks and best regards,
Mary

It looks to me like an already sealing rubber gasket. DN58 should fit tightly, 2cm (1 inch) depth is enough. The siphon acts as a trap to prevent odors, in case you're worried your machine might start to smell. But this is hardly necessary. As a temporary seal, I would use a freezer bag stuck on or over it.

You need a DN 50 pipe, which is the inner diameter. The outer diameter is about 60mm (2.4 inches). From there, you go down to DN 40, install your trap (or insert a siphon), and then you can connect the washing machine.

Most likely, a soundproof pipe system is installed here. Possibly Geberit. Either contact the landlord or ask a local plumber about the appropriate connection parts.

I actually measured the internal diameter myself, and it was around 59mm (2.3 inches), with a wall thickness of about 4mm (0.16 inches). Now I’m really wondering if that can still be considered DN50.

Either contact the landlord or ask a local plumber about suitable connection parts.

I don't think it is something that high-quality; the pipe should correspond to the age of the house (built in 1972).
