Hello,
we are planning to buy new appliances for our new house. For the washing machine, we want a Miele.
I noticed that Miele offers a “pre-iron” function in some of their newer models. This heats the drum and spins at a certain speed to make laundry smoother.
The question is: what are the benefits? Do T-shirts, jeans, trousers, or sweaters still need to be hung up? Do they still require ironing? What about casual shirts (I assume formal shirts for church or office would still need ironing)? Is it more effective on so-called “wrinkle-free” shirts?
So far, I have only found a few reviews on Amazon about this feature. They say that light shirts (not stiff ones) and T-shirts don’t necessarily need ironing afterward. T-shirts can be worn straight away, and shirts only need to be hung up and will be smooth (though I suspect not perfect). One comment mentioned that ironing afterward is much easier.
Reviews tend to be brief and written shortly after purchase, so I’m asking here in the hope that someone has personal experience with this pre-iron function and can share their insights.
Thanks to a special dealer, we have three specific machines to choose from, with only one featuring the ironing function — but it costs about €200 more.
Thank you.
Best regards

We bought the Miele WMV 960 washing machine and are completely satisfied with it. We are currently still looking for a suitable dryer to go with it. Of course, truly wrinkle-free results are not possible, but it will definitely be able to make wrinkle-free shirts ready to wear. And ironing T-shirts? That’s probably too boring. With Miele appliances, you can definitely notice the price difference when using them.
My father-in-law now wants to give the WMB120 WCS as a generous Christmas gift.
He says we can choose a different one and we will pay the extra cost.
The machine does not have an ironing function, and I wouldn’t consider paying an additional 200€ for that.
I think the machine serves its purpose, and I am simply grateful.

With our old washing machine (also a Miele), only my shirts were ironed; everything else was simply washed, hung up, and worn.
Now even shirt ironing is no longer necessary – we run a separate shirt wash with the pre-ironing function every 1.5 weeks. For non-iron and easy-care shirts, you can skip ironing completely if you hang them on hangers immediately after the program ends. For “regular” shirts, you can usually overlook minor wrinkles.
Due to the reduced capacity (from 8 to 4 kg (9 to 9 pounds)), this feature isn’t suitable for all wash loads, just for shirts.
Still, it allows me to sleep 5 minutes longer every morning — which, over time, would be worth 200 EUR to me.

We have now been using our machine for some time, but I haven’t noticed any real difference, even unconsciously.
I often forget to pay special attention, but if I don’t notice a difference unconsciously, then it probably isn’t very significant. I’ll try to remember to focus on it more in the future.
So far, we haven’t had any shirts, only T-shirts, sweaters, jeans, etc. However, I think the laundry comes out warmer after pre-ironing, but not less damp.
