Hello everyone,
I would like to get some tips and experiences from you again.
We are planning a utility room on the first floor, mainly dedicated to laundry. So, it should include:
a washing machine, dryer, laundry detergent, a utility sink (is that the right term?), space for sorting laundry, a laundry cabinet for towels, etc., and possibly some cleaning supplies and a vacuum cleaner.
Currently, the structural dimensions are 3.51 x 1.70 m (11.5 x 5.6 ft). If we place the washing machine and dryer along the longer wall as planned, there will be just under 1 m (3.3 ft) of working space in front of the washing machine. After reading another thread, I realized that might be too tight and uncomfortable.
How much space do you have in front of your washing machine? From what point is it comfortable without having to press your backside against the wall?

Keep in mind that you can’t put everything from the washing machine directly into the dryer, and you might also need space for a drying rack.
Why use the 3.51 m (11.5 ft) side instead of the 1.7 m (5.6 ft) side? That way, you’d have a comfortable 2.9 m (9.5 ft) for maneuvering, as well as for an ironing board and a drying rack. So, in terms of size, the room is sufficient.

I think I know which thread you got the idea from...
So, I checked exactly and we have 2.03 m (6 ft 8 in) width minus 65 cm (26 inches) for the platform, which leaves me with 1.33 m (4 ft 4 in) of space in front of the washing machine. However, opposite the washing machine there is also the distribution box for the underfloor heating height. As I said, I find it a bit tight. I estimate that about 2 m (6 ft 7 in) width is optimal.

Thanks for your responses. I find it really helpful to be able to discuss these kinds of questions here.
So we can position it along the long side… it’s not that critical, as the architect originally planned it that way. If we place it along the short side, the washer and dryer would be under the window. That would make access difficult, and we also want to install a utility sink there, which might make the space tight again.
Are your two appliances placed on a pedestal? What height would you recommend?
