ᐅ Additional Bathroom: Through the Developer or Just Installing the Plumbing?

lasa64Hello,
we will have a house built by the developer and would like to install a bathroom of approximately 7 sqm (75 sq ft) in the attic. The developer would charge about 10,000 euros for the bathroom. Are these costs reasonable, or is it significantly cheaper to have only the pipes installed initially and fit the bathroom later? How do you estimate the costs?

Without knowing the full background, I assume this refers to a completed bathroom, possibly with budget-friendly fixtures, but finished nonetheless. Personally, I don't consider €10,000 to be too expensive for this. Including fixtures, tiles, etc., an external contractor probably wouldn't do it cheaper.
The only option might be doing it yourself.

If your question is whether to install a finished bathroom now in an attic space planned for expansion later, or just to prepare the plumbing, the latter is more practical. Installing all the pipes now means the noise and dust from that work will already be done. Finished fixtures also age unused, and in ten years, you’re unlikely to appreciate having a bathroom finished according to today's styles. I would not tie up funds in the final fittings at this stage.
However, I assume you are referring to a builder. Developers sell fully completed homes ready to move into, so options for later expansion are usually not common.

whether it is possible to install the pipes without building the entire bathroom Why shouldn’t it be?
The plumber doesn’t care how many years later the tiler arrives. There are shut-off valves :-)
