ᐅ Is a Satellite System Still Necessary for New Builds, or Is IPTV Sufficient?

Hello everyone,
Please forgive me if I haven’t searched through hundreds of pages. My basic question is whether you still consider a satellite dish necessary or if you would just skip it altogether. About our profile: When we watch TV, it’s exclusively public broadcasting channels and no private channels. However, mostly we watch on-demand content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and so on. In this context, we’re really starting to doubt whether we can save ourselves the 850 EUR gross. What do you think? Should we just stream the public broadcasting channels via Apple TV, or is it still better to have a satellite dish installed?
Thanks & good luck, Commanderchen

For MagentaTV, do you need a separate receiver from Telekom for each TV, which you have to rent?Yes.
However, it is also possible to buy the receivers externally.

Yes.
But you can also buy the receivers externally. Wouldn’t SAT-IP be more cost-effective for me if all TVs already have an internal receiver?
How does it work with SKY, actually?
At the moment, I watch it via satellite. Would it also work over SAT-IP using the SKY receiver?

Yes.
However, receivers can also be purchased separately. It is not absolutely necessary to have a separate telecom receiver for each TV. Basically, one device that supports multicast streaming (e.g., a Raspberry Pi with Kodi) is sufficient, allowing you to access the channels directly (unencrypted). Many smart TVs generally support IPTV but rarely multicast, so the stream would need to be converted to unicast (for example, using udpxy).

Who else has integrated it? The models outside of Panasonic can be counted on one hand.
In my opinion, SatIp never really matured. Especially the servers are known for poor reviews, too few simultaneous streams, or short market availability. That means there is not much choice of dedicated devices.
To my knowledge, CI(+) doesn’t work either. So no HD+ or Sky.
I would just go for Zattoo or Waipu for about €10 per month. Sky via their app solution. MagentaTV is now also available without a set-top box and without a Telekom contract. Vodafone has opened its IPTV beyond its own network as well. Competition is steadily increasing.
