Hello everyone,

we are currently planning our baseboards. There are so many options from different suppliers that it's getting hard to keep track. We also didn’t find anything suitable at the hardware store.

We have a solid brick house with vinyl flooring fully glued down throughout. White wallpaper ends 2cm (1 inch) above the floor. So, we thought about installing relatively low baseboards. A height of 40mm (1.5 inches) would be nice. The selection here is not really big.
The next consideration is how the inside and outside corners should look. I won’t be miter cutting them, as honestly, that’s too time-consuming for me. So there are two options left:

1. Plastic corner pieces (our fallback solution)
2. Corner blocks (or whatever they are called)

With the second option, it’s again difficult to find corner blocks exactly matching the thickness of the baseboard. And they shouldn’t protrude either :/
So we will probably end up with option 1 unless someone has a better idea or knows a supplier who offers perfectly matching sets.

Regarding attachment, I don’t mind whether they are fixed with clips or screwed directly into the wall. Whether it’s MDF or solid wood doesn’t matter either. Cable management would be nice but is not absolutely necessary.

Maybe you can share some pictures of how you solved this...

Best regards,
Sebastian

We installed laminated MDF baseboards in two rooms. They are about 50mm (2 inches) high and perfectly rectangular, so there’s no need to miter the corners. We find them very attractive, and I’ve never installed baseboards so quickly. As is common nowadays, they are mounted on plastic clips. Cable installation behind them is also possible. I think we bought them at OBI, but I would have to look for the receipt to be sure.

However, it is difficult to find baseboards that match the floor design perfectly. Now, when looking for new flooring, I also check what matching baseboards are available since I’ve had one or two mismatches before.

I have also installed those foil-covered MDF pieces with clips.
In my opinion, this is not a very good solution. They don’t hold completely tight and don’t fit perfectly everywhere. This means there are sometimes small gaps between the molding and the floor, since drilling with that level of precision isn’t really possible.
If you don’t need to rely on cable management and might need to remove the moldings again, next time I would glue them instead.
Screwing the moldings directly to the wall doesn’t look good and, in my opinion, isn’t even possible with these MDF pieces because they can’t withstand it. Solid wood moldings work for that, but even then the screws aren’t exactly a visual highlight.
The corners should be miter cut; those plastic corner pieces are a disaster.
With the right saw, that really shouldn’t be a problem.

Parador ASL3, mitered and installed with clips. Fast, simple, clean. There is no gap between the baseboard and the floor; the elongated hole in the clip compensates for some height deviation during drilling, as long as the clip is not screwed in too tightly. Telephone, power, and speaker cables can be easily routed along with it. For this, you can modify the baseboard at an inconspicuous spot on the underside with a Dremel tool to create cable entry and exit points, so it still sits firmly everywhere.

Our carpenter gave us what he thought was good advice to fasten the baseboards with brass screws or nails. I’m very glad we didn’t do it that way.

Thanks for the tips and advice. The Parador ASL3 look quite good. I think we will take a closer look at them in person...

There are end caps, inner and outer corner pieces, as well as transition profiles available in white and aluminum for them, but at exorbitant prices of about 4€ per pair. For that amount, you could rent a good edging and miter saw.
