Hello,
I was planning to have a cable connection installed instead of a telecom connection.
In our case, the street ends at the beginning of our property and still needs to be extended.
Telecom charges a flat fee of €800 for the house connection, regardless of how many meters of cable need to be laid under the street.
Unity Media says their flat fee includes only 10 meters on public and private land. Every additional meter costs €100.
When I asked if the neighbors who come after me would benefit because the network expansion would then be further along, the answer was yes. So I would basically be paying for the network expansion for the neighbor just because my connection is first.
The city shows no intention of covering the network expansion cost or distributing it among property owners based on the size of their plots.
At the moment, I see it as just bad luck for me and feel like I have to bite the bullet, or otherwise, I will have to settle for the slower telecom connection.
Do you see it this way too, or does anyone have an idea how I might get any party involved to agree on a fair redistribution?
Thank you.

Especially if there is no alternative "very fast" broadband available, such as from cable providers, Telekom usually offers fiber optic connections in new housing developments. Have you checked that? Fiber optic from Telekom would, in my opinion, always be preferable to coaxial cable, even just based on the product pricing.
Even aside from fiber optic, a VDSL vectoring connection is, in my opinion, better than coaxial. Although it only reaches up to 100 Mbit/s downstream, it provides 40 Mbit/s upstream, which is, in my view, significantly more valuable than x00 Mbit/s downstream with a poor upstream speed.
In our new development area and in our city, the telecom company advertises “fast” internet (of course via vectoring). We only get 25 Mbit/s from that, and that’s supposed to be fast. :-D
Even though it’s a new development, fiber optic cable isn’t expected here for at least 10 years (according to a telecom employee). So if the investment isn’t really small, the telecom company won’t do anything toward truly fast internet for now.
Sad situation in Germany.
PS: Cable internet isn’t any better. Same reason, the effort to install cables there is too high.

HilfeHilfe29 Apr 2017 08:46Either ask the city for a subsidy or contact the Telekom builders' hotline. We received a refund from Telekom back then, I believe 400€ (about 430 USD), if we stayed with them for 2 years.
Telekom offers 16,000 DSL, no fiber optic.
Unity Media offers 400 Mbit/s.
As mentioned above, the issue is not the costs with Telekom, but with the costs of Unity Media.
As stated earlier, the city has no plans to expand the cable network, so there is no subsidy available.
